In New York there are several cars, several streets, several turns, several drivers, and several more occassions of theft and vandalism. Those things place the company at a much higher risk to pay out a claim so they charge you a higher premium in order to be able to pay on those claims.
Remember that insurance companies are here to make money, not to pay out on your claim. If they charge you too little and pay out too much then they lose money. If that happened all the time, they wouldn't insure you...just like if you have 2 DUI's...you are much more of a risk to them than an 18 year old with a clean driving record, therefore, your premium will be higher.
You people all claim to be so smart but you sit around bickering like children about things you don't know about.
You race, you race.
You die, you die.
You kill other people while doing it, you kill other people while doing it.
I posted this to show what can happen. This accident could have been 100000 times worse than it was and luckily it wasn't.
Bottom line is that there is a family here locally that will no longer being spending the holidays with their 18 year old son. If you don't understand that concept then you need to re-evaluate the way you think.
Maybe he deserved it, maybe he didn't.
The bottom line is that he is dead.
Do what you have to do to either end up like him or not. Nobody here cares about what you think, it's what you have done by the end of the day that really counts.
Ask the dead guy.

Dont get me wrong its dumb and stupid, but we've all done it. It just takes that 1 time whether its cops, crashing, etc to stop us each from doing it again.
At least in my case. Why I love my xA. I can pretend red light racing all I like and never beat an accord
or get into allot of trouble. I know if I had a tC I would prob. take more risks on a daily basis in little ways but one of the reasons I stay with low HP cars.I feel sorry for the families effected and for the driver that will have to live with his choice to race that day and the consequences of his actions (the one that lived)...
PS: NYC has plenty of accidents but they are all but mostly fender benders. Racing is kind of not heard of at all. Can't really do it. Too many cars and too many "J" walkers! Maybe once in my life I saw and read about a police chase on Broadway that ended VERY badly on 72st. That group with the car were desperate but did not get far.

I think the term "street racing" is simply too broad. Were they driving in a heavy populated area or a deserted one? Were they weaving in and out of traffic? Were they in a residential street? IMO, weaving in and out of traffic is just ASKING to get in a wreck. Know one can predict what other drivers will do. However, when people meet up in secluded areas and race, I don't see the big deal, at least in terms of being irresponsible.
You can definately see where the points of view differ from the kids and the adults.
I understand better than most how important a life is, and I've had a girlfriend who I loved very much killed by someone who wasn't paying attention and hit the driver's side. That having been said, the government, police, and any other organization/company doesn't look at life the same way we do. It's all about acceptable loss. If the postives of something (ie revenue) outweigh the negatives, a few deaths are "acceptable". It's why a cure for cancer will likely never be affordable for the average person. There's too much money to be made. Same thing goes with cars, BT's, and all that. It's a huge source of revenue. So much so, that the government will "overlook" X amount of deaths because of the larger picture.

The reason why you pay noticably more than your brother is your age. Generally, people don't get to see an insurance price break until they're 25.
In addition, you may have to consider cost of replacement on the vehicle. Yes they are comparable vehicles, but that doesn't mean that labor or parts don't cost more insurance/appraisal wise. I'm not sure if Civic's retain their value like tC's do, but that would effect the total "value" of the car and the replacement cost on labor and parts. If my hypothesis is correct, this would make insurance premiums higher on the tC's because it costs more to fix.
Nope neither one of us or on the policy we have horrible records especially my brother,
NEITHER ONE OF US r on the policy. i live on my own my brother lives at another location and my mother lives sumwhere else. thats y the insurance company cant automatically put a extra driver on the record bc if they did put us his record would make our insurance sky rocket. My mother is the ONLY driver on her insurance and ONLY person living at her residence excpet my sister which shes 11.
so yet again neither one of us r on the record hes gotten into accidents under her insurance with no problem hes gotten into many accidents (total losses, high payment etc.)
so thats when it comes down to y is mine 450 and his 280? u know?
