Actually, the cop wasn't shot. It was the cop who shot the other guy.
According to THE CALIFORNIAN newspaper:
It happened at 7:30pm in Old Town Temecula (3 hours after the Rod Run finished up).
Apparently the off-duty officer inappropriately touched a female at this bar. The guy who got shot stood up for the female and told the officer not to touch her like that. This was before the guy identified himself as a police officer. So the two argued and scuffled and thats when the officer pulled out his gun and shot that guy in the chest and shot his friend in the leg. The guy who died was shot right in front of his 7yr. old son.
When I first heard about this, I thought that the guy who died got what he deserved for beating up an officer. That's before I found out that the off-duty officer had done what he had done to that female, and the guy who died was only defending her.
I hope the officer gets what is coming to him.....

f u c kin perverted a$$ cop, i hope he looses his job and gets put in jail for life. just cause your an off duty cop does not mean that you have the right to shoot people. if could b ittch slap the f uuck out of this guy i would and then shoot him in the chest and leg. given cops an even worst name.

My friend knew the guys GF. From what i heard the cop was drunk grabed her butt and when the whole fight was going on the cop was getting beat. So he told them he was a cop and told he that he had a gun. i belive the friends jumped in to stop the guy from shooting. that just the one side i heard. So I cant say that really happend

yes. off duty cops are allowed to have their gun on them. pretty much anyone can as long as you have a license.
anyone remember steve foley from the san diego chargers?
he got shot by an off-duty officer who followed him from coronado to la jolla.
steve foley cannot play football ever again.
