Interest in custom fiberglass xA spare tire subwoofer box?
I'm getting ready to start an enclosure project for my xA and was wondering if anyone was interested in participating in the fabrication & design...
I figure it would be easier to go through the process and make a couple of enclosures at the same time instead of just one and thought I'd share with the rest of you Colorado Scion folk.
Some project specifics:
- 10" subwoofer: The sealed enclosure will be for a small volume 10" subwoofer such as the Image Dynamics ID10 (between .4-.8 cu. ft.). I might be able to fit an ID12... I still need to figure out the available volume.
- Removable: The enclosure will be relatively easy to remove for access to the spare tire.
- Replace back hatch floor panel: I intend to keep the original hatch floor panel (the one covering the spare tire) intact so that the car can easily be returned to stock condition, so there will be no cutting it up! To do this I'll be making a new floor panel out of MDF or another lightweight sturdy material, which will then be carpeted (vinyl is also an option).
- Amp rack & speaker grill: My plan is to create a recessed & covered amp rack for a small subwoofer amp ( DEI 250d perhaps) and also include a sturdy subwoofer grill so that crap can still be put into the hatch. The amp and subwoofer grill will be flush
- Construction: The base and top of the enclosure will be 3/4" MDF. The rest of the enclosure will be fiberglass.
Here's a link to a similar project that was done for a VW hatch (this project will have a much smaller enclosure however... that VW box is huge...):

PM me if there's any interest... I'll probably be starting in about a week or two...
Thanks,
PxA
