Default Love the Fall Colors? Wanna Drive...again?

I am starting this thread to guage the response level for a Fall season drive in the hills!

For those of you who were past ScinergyCO club members, you may remember this as the "Mt. Evans Drive" that we usually do each year with all of the club members.

For the past few years a small group of us have done this drive apart from any club affiliation, and we have just gotten together for a casual drive and pictures. We have NOT always done the Mt. Evans Drive every time, opting for a drive in another part of the mountains sometimes.

So, if you would like to go on a peaceful, scenic drive to see the fall colors in the mountains and shoot some great pics of our cars, then lets' do it!

WHEN: The drive will happen on either Saturday, October 5th or on Saturday, October 12th. We will decide based on response levels to this thread.

WHERE: Meet at the McDonalds just off of I-70 in Idaho Springs at 9am.

DRIVE INFO: We will lead the drive through Idaho Springs to the west on I-70, getting off at the Georgetown exit. Then we will drive up into the hills on Guanella Pass Road to Duck Lake. We will have the opportunity to go on a short hike while we are there (if you like) before heading back down to Idaho Springs. We will stop along the way for fall color pictures. Once we get back to Idaho Springs we can decide if we want to continue on the Mt. Evans drive from there, or not. Then, we usually meet to have a meal at a local restaurant afterwards too.

NOTE! This is NOT a race in the hills , and it is NOT club affiliated. This is just a leisurely drive and a chance to get good pics to share!

THIS DRIVE IS OPEN TO ALL CAR MAKES & MODELS...NOT JUST FOR SCIONS!

Just so you know the top five miles of Mt Evans are now closed. Also one of our members said that he drove 103 the other day and that some parts of it are torn down to gravel.

WTF? lol... We'll have to look into that then! Thanks for the heads-up. I'll check and post up here if the location/drive plans change. We definitely don't want any pure gravel roads for the drive.

In looking at the CDOT web page, it looks like (if we stay on the path I mentioned in my post) we should be OK to do at least the AM part of the drive.
We don't leave Idaho Springs on 103 for our Guanella Pass part of the drive that morning anyway, since we go to Georgetown and go up 381 to the Duck Lake area instead.
The afternoon part though, could be the problem if they are still doing construction in between Idaho Springs and Mt. Evans on 103. Hmmm... The CDOT site doesn't show anything going on there, but I will dig deeper to find out.

Looks like they ARE doing paving operations on 103 down between Echo Lake and Evergreen.
The CDOT site shows a cone zone with the following info: CO 103 Northbound / Southbound Between old Squaw Pass Rd and CO 5 (Mount Evans) (Milemarker 22.48-13.2) (through October 2013)
However, if we go from Idaho Springs up to Echo Lake and back again (without continuing up to Mt. Evans, or going down to Evergreen) we should be OK there too! Yay!

Default Rethinking The Date?

We have been monitoring the colors in photos we have seen lately, and it looks like the colors are changing sooner than we thought they would be!

So, we are thinking of going THIS Saturday, 9/28 instead...or next Saturday, 10/5 at the latest...

Any thoughts from anyone else wanting to go for a fall drive? ...and Hax, we will text with you about it too, of course. ;)

Yay! We would love to see you again Dade! I STILL haven't gotten with you about that tC stuff either (I'm so sorry)! Do you still have it?

I think we are leaning towards next weekend too! Maybe we will get more pics with golds and reds in them too... the last few times we have gone it has been mostly just yellows.

Bring the kids again?

Yeah, It's all still on the side of my house. I need to get rid of it and other parts. I'm probably going to list them in the FS section. PM me about when you're available to come get it.

Yeah, I may bring the kids if they want to go. We'll see.

Uh-Oh...you guys are gonna wanna strangle me!
We aren't going to be able to do the drive next weekend afterall!
We discovered that we have to be at our Nephew's baseball tournament to do the scoring ALL that weekend (10/5-10/6).
So, this pushes the drive back to 10/12 or 10/13 instead...UGH! Unless you all want to go ahead without us...that's ok too. I'm so sorry you guys! Let us know what you wanna do?
:/

Well considering the weather, next weekend will probably be better anyway.

Angry SOOO NOT COOL

Well, looks like this weekend is a no-go too. With my workload, it looks like I will be staying home, and working from home all weekend.

Wouldn't be bad with the cold weather they're calling for, but I was really looking forward to getting some good Fall season pictures, and seeing all of you guys too!

I hope some of you are able to get out and enjoy the drive anyway. Sorry we had to drop out this year...
