Also, denny, what was the website that offers port n polishing on the cylinder head that you mentioned a while back? Just curious to see what they are offering, and why they charge so much
your money is better spent on building a block. that is what goes first... but if u wana do a head..its worth it ur going to see gains... but not monsterous ones.. your looked at 500+ in parts and labor alone not including a head. IMO its better to build the block for more power on a boosy app. because if u wanted more power u would just have to turn up the boost. and run a 3" exhuast for anything over 300 whp

Not any time soon. But if I were to remove the cylinder head. At that point how much harder would it be to remove the short block?

I think in the future I can live with the downtime on my car. I'll just use my dads other car. That way I don't have to buy a spare engine.

its hard.. u have to remove the valve cover, then remove the cam guides and the timing chain off the cams to get to the head stud bolts.. then u have to remove the coolant piping, then remove the head, then remove the starter, the alternator and then the tranny from the block which now u need to remove the axles from both sides, then u need to remove the pass. motor mount then the wiring harness for the sensors and thats about it...theres other stuff u need to take out to get to it but thats a quick summary...and u need to take it out from the top.. the subframe will fight you and not give u a good time trying to take it out from the bottom.. top is easiest way.. bottom is murder..

hmmmm..... the cylinder head removal doesn't sound so bad..
I'm thinking since I have to change the head gasket any way, I might as well change it to a Cometic MLS gasket, and to also have the valvetrain done. Your right though pete, I should probably leave this after the shortblock is done. Its no good if a piston or connecting rod goes =/

The short block...."DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!! DANGERRRRRRR"
sounds like its wwwwwaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy out of my league, for comfort.

What if the shortblock isn't sleeved, and I just get pistons and rods. Do you think the shortblock would be able to handle 400-500whp?

saying it and doing it are 2 dif. things.. the way i learned was to go to a junkyard and find a fked up tc and start taking ____ apart.. when it comes time for ur car u will atleast have some familiarity... for 400-500... i would do what this.. darton, erl or golden eagle sleeved block, new rods, lower compression pistons (8.5 or 9.1) and have everything balanced and blue printed.. crank can support 700... u will wana upgrade to ACL bearings also...thats about it roughly...

theres 2 ways to go about this.. you can either A. do autoX which from what i hear is alot of fun but killer on your brake pads and tires lolololol...or B. save up money and when sebring up north has road coarse days to race on their track u can participate but its a little expensive.. u have to take a class with them first.. then take a course tour.. then a course courtesy test.. then u can race a few laps.. im saving up money for this !!! cuz its bad ___

or we can take out some aggression at one of those indoor go cart tracks in opa locka... or the other go cart track up north by boomers... IM SO DOWN FOR SOME KARTING! lol... and i know a hook up for go carting...

Im def. down for some karting...

Ive heard of sebring but i also hear sebring sucks as a track....plus i would mind a BBK, coils, and nice new rubber, and a few other goodies for some autoX...think i can borrow one of ur seats so i wont go sliding round everywhere.... j/k

Slicks would be used for autoX'ing as well right??

I'll check out which one is closer. I know golden eagle is in california. Thats gonna cost a lot for shipping.
Hopefully darton or erl are closer.

From what i've seen at junk yards. They usually sell the long block. Do you think its possible to just get the short block without the cylinder head?
