Maybe his piggyback sucked? bad tune? ebay parts? I don't know his setup.
My car spiked to 14 psi at the track a couple of times, when I was tweaking the boost controller the last time I went to the track (monthssss ago). Then I had it consistently at around 10-12psi, running rich, but my car did see that much boost several times.
My car is still fine, head gasket is fine. Compression is fine. Our 2azfe is a pretty tough little engine. For all the massive sh!!t my car has been through, lmao.
Also his sentence..... "I have a chipped piston that shows 12PSI is too much for this motor without pulling timing."
Obviously timing has to be pulled, and you have to maintain a proper AFR for the setup.
My guess is he didn't pull enough timing/add enough fuel lol
Edit: Oh and another thing. Our sleeves are good up what, about 400-450whp. 400 is safer obviously. The stock pistons not so sure, the highest #s I know about are around 350 on premium, and around 400whp on race gas.
Its a proven fact 12psi is pretty normal for high boost. Obviously if your boost happy 24/7 on high boost all the time, racing it like you stole it, parts are gonna get worn out faster =p
But for the most parts, several people turn up the boost to 12psi with zero issues.
