Car Show Suggestions!
Trophies are Trivial....if your in it for the trophies then your in this for the wrong reasons.
JDM/VIP Mild Wild ...did we forget we do all this because we all have a common interest and love for our scions? sure whats with a little competition but dam some people get wayyy too obsessed with material objects that all they do is clutter and collect dust in a corner HONESTLY!
This is an old debate but ladies and gentlemen you cannot ignore an issue b/c it only gets bigger...its an OLD problem/topic because people think if they ignore the problem it will go away....wont happen...hasnt happen yet....never happen.
JDM is not easy...i had to wait for some parts that were from JDM land for 3 months to 6months at a time... I do not believe JDMer's Cry...they just like everyone else want o be recognized and respected...and when the attitude is "OMG freakin JDM people! *exzaggrate sigh* WTF is JDM anyways?? and why should i give a damn?" of course there gonna get ____ed and say wtf! but i wont say i dont get tired of the whole "i'm more JDM then you!" debate but whatever...its a given with all classes...i accept that and move on...
again I am NOT JDM nor would i try to be BUT i do respect it as a Class and styling...when done RIGHT!...and this OLD debate is for a judge who reconizes and knows what JDM is and respects it as a class!
*gets off soap box*
so can we accept this and move on with our lives?

Joanne, I totally appreciate your understanding. But I have come to realize that your right. This debate has been going on for a long long time. And I should stop wasting my time trying to make people understand and accept JDM as a style.
My new goal is simple, if you cant beat them, join them. I will keep the JDM stuff for more Magazine Coverage like the one I got from Modified Mag.
I dont need some one interpreting my concern for the judges lack of knowledge, as cries for mandating a JDM category. Im sure that when Leslie started this thread, she didnt want it to become another debate over this.
I gave my suggestions, and they were shot down. But If I host a carshow, and shoot down Lambo doors, and pepboys neons, would I be the bad guy????

about the judges.. u cant just have random judges judge our cars.. i say.. all the spectators that show up votes for the cars they like and the end of the night they announce the winners.. as for the categories.. have the people decide that..since that is what they are looking for..
maybe give all the specs a score card and they can fill it out and but it in a box or something..
idk.. just giving my 2 cents

We are a large community and we all know each other - why are classes/judging even necessary? I would rather hang out with people and check out cars for a bit then move on to watching a movie or playing video games then to stand around the same group of cars for 3 hours.
I could care less about getting any trophy and really like the dash plaque idea as there is less childish drama all around and less worries about judging in etc

BUT:
The import scene is a lifestyle for some of us. So we tend to be hardcore when it comes to these debates. Some of us really do care about trophies, because thats how we measure how are car is doing in the industry. And shows that our research, time, money, and dedication to the art is paying off. Its a damn shame that you can spend a certain amount of time, research, and money, to have someone consider this as just drama. The JDM/USDM debate may be drama. But the shows are afun way to meet new people, learn something new, and have magazines take pictures of your car.
Some of us actually do this cause we love the feeling of it.

It would not be fair for spectators to judge. Why??? Cause why would I have a spectator vote, when all spectators do is ask about mods, and what does that do, and what does this mean.. etc etc etc Thats why they are SPECTATORS.
You have to have unbiased, knowledgable judges, which will be there to not just look at your ride, but to conversate with you, get your input on the show, tell you what you should do to place in a show if you havent placed, give advice, provide sources for parts, and provide knowlegde on new trends and styles. Not to mention promote integrity, and respect amongst common carshow attendees.
I greatly respect everyone's view and opinion, just stating my own and I appreciate your response. Trophies are important to some and not to others. We're all at different points in our lives so I was just expressing my own.
I have a very sincere respect for all parts that people do - all our taste is different and thats what should make being a community so much fun. If I could actually see a reason to change my daily driven xB in a VIP-style bB w/ parts straight from Japan, I wouldn't hesitate. I have an extreme respect for that style (hell my wheels are cast w/ Made in Japan on them) and for EVERY style out there.
Anyways I guess my main point was, I can only take so many hours of the same cars at the same places. If other activites could be scheduled, that'd be great!
Nothing but love to everyone! Now to find a BBist Type 1 wing in fiberglass.... *off searching*

Some of you really dont know what JDM is, yet like to object it. Some of you say that you've seen people who believe they are "to good to talk to you at shows."
I WILL RAISE MY HAND AND SAY THAT I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE.
I wouldnt talk to some of you guys due to the mentalities that I see on the forums anyway. If Im interpreting the situation wrong, please, clarify it for me.
For those of you misled on the concept of JDM or what not, its ok. There are people in this world that are willing to help you understand the method behind my madness, and many others. People like, Ben Schaffer, of Bespoke Ventures.
Enjoy:
THE REDEFINITION OF JDM
JDM is a mentality, an attitude, a culture,
a desire, and a philosophy:
JDM IS INNOVATION.
Through a no expense spared, no shortcuts taken mentality, Japanese manufacturers consistently innovate with new performance and style, often trickled down from JGTC technology and applied to street cars. Over the past decade, countless new trends and successful applications have been created and popularized by JDM innovation. This is thanks in part to two factors, one is the Japanese culture’s famous attention to quality and detail. The second factor is that Japan’s market is perfect for high-end products because the cost of car ownership is prohibitively expensive and as a result the average car owner is more accepting of paying top dollar for tuning parts.
JDM IS AN ATTITUDE.
I and certainly many other JDM enthusiasts have a tendency to be early adopters. What this means is that we scour the world for underground activities, lifestyles and products that are refreshing, unique, exciting and that we relate to. Everything from skateboarding, hiphop and of course JDM starts from the underground and works its way up. JDM is lead by those who look for the next exciting thing, apply it to their lives and set the trends for the world. It is not uncommon for those into JDM tuning to also be into underground fashion like A Bathing Ape, underground music like mashup remix projects of DJ Danger Mouse/Jay-Z, and underground collectables
like Kubrick vinyl figurines.
JDM IS A CULTURE.
Much like how rap has started as a music and grown into a lifestyle and culture, JDM has also. Ten years ago it was unlikely for a white emcee to get on stage and freestyle and it was also unlikely for white enthusiasts to represent JDM tuning in hotspots like the Los Angeles scene. Hiphop started out as nearly all black and JDM started out as nearly all Asian, yet both have evolved into cultures that are accepting of people of all backgrounds, so long as they properly represent the culture to the fullest. JDM parts are our producer/DJ, enthusiasts are our MCs, drifters are our B-Boys, and vinyl graphics are our graffiti. Ultimately just like any culture, there is a glue that binds and JDM enthusiasts can relate to each other regardless of their language and background. A drift car ripping up the perfect line sideways means “dope” in any language, nothing else need be said.
JDM IS A DESIRE.
JDM is pursuit of the ultimate car using the latest in innovation, technology, style, craftsmanship and exotic materials. Any enthusiast true to themselves will understand and accept that no project is ever truly finished and perfect. There is a shared struggle and desire that can’t be quenched or overcome and it’s result is the continued push of innovation from both the project cars that enthusiasts develop and the new products that they inspire and create.
JDM IS PHILOSOPHY.
JDM encompasses all of the above beliefs and also carries with it some of the culture that Japan has embedded into minds of JDM fans. In Japan there is a rivalry between drivers, teams, shops and enthusiasts but in the end everyone is friends sharing in the same joy and there’s no violence or long term bad blood. Also biting styles is strongly discouraged, everyone is pulling themselves up by innovation, work and skill, not by stealing the formula of their competition. There is a strong sense of respect, honor and responsibility with an understanding that a culture is a tight knit community which has the ability to grow and improve or be destroyed depending on the attitude and action of its members.
I’ll wrap this up saying that JDM is not a trend or fad like some tend to say. As long as there is innovation and style in our scene, there will be always be JDM. Although JDM carries the word Japan within its meaning, the future of JDM is not dependant solely on Japanese manufacturing. It is true that for the past decade and still continuing to this day Japan is leading the new development and design of ground breaking products. Yet the staples of the JDM scene do not hinge on Japan as a manufacturing location.
It is already true and it will continue to be that products representing JDM interests can be originated and produced by anyone from any country. For example, Top Secret who is considered JDM uses on all of their cars: suspension made in Holland, fuel cells made in America, and steering wheels and brakes both made in Italy. The day may come when Japan is no longer the top innovator within the scene, and when that day comes the word JDM may need a refreshed identity. Regardless of what we call it, the underlying beliefs that hold the evolving JDM culture together today will never disappear.
