What type of work do you do? That might also hinder where you want to live. You are correct about the Pit Bulls in Miami (it does suck), but if work isn't an issue, then you might want to consider Monroe county and to stick close to mainland just go with Key Largo (the first key). Also, I'm not positive or not if they are illegal in Broward County (one county north of Miami where Ft Lauderdale is), but that may also be an option. Basically you'd be in a surrounding area from Miami without having to leave your dog behind. The keys are the best place for diving though (better than in Miami).
