My Camera is having an Internal Malfunction!

My Camera is having an Internal Malfunction!
Ok, I have to take my Cyber-Shot DSC-7W Camera somewhere to get it fixed. 
There is an internal malfunction and I can't trouble shoot the fix.. So sony requests that i send it to them, but want to try not to send it anywhere, but take it to someone locally in florida to fix it.
To replace the camera it would cost $500, so I am thinking lets fix it.
the cost thru sony is an initial $181 then if its above and beyond the "repair quote" they let me know, but they will already have my camera, and i just don't feel comfortable do that. If its someting stupid that would only cost me a minimal amount to fix.
What a way to start the new year! F&*@#@~!!!!!!!!! (sorry camera is my only sanity at times)
