Default At or MT?

hi im new to scion as well as a real sports vehicle, but im considering getting the fr-s.
im mediocre at best using manual transmission, but love the feel.
the fr-s comes with suprisingly good fuel economy, but its a leap better when using automatic. thoughts?

Get the manual. You'll grow accustomed to it over time.

If you're getting a daily driver for a boring commute, you get an auto. If you're buying a car as specialized as the FRS, you get a manual. It is made for affordable driving enjoyment, buy a manual.

I would go manual. I HATE having automatic. I feel like I might as well be driving an electric car.

I don't have an FRS but I drove a tC from 2005-2010. I just graduated college at the time and went with the manual so I could feel/be cool. Every time I ended up in traffic I hated life. When I was doing a commute with it in 09/10 of 65 miles one way, I really friggin hated it. Maybe I'm just old now, but I always say go automatic. Kick back and just enjoy the ride. :p

Automatics are for people who can't properly drive a car, end of story. They were developed to make vehicles easier to drive for the learning impaired.

Yes, they've made huge advancements that now make them more effiicient than manual transmissions, but they're still for people who can't drive cars, and are too lazy to kick a clutch in traffic.

Horse carriages to automobiles must of been for the lazy too.

Just my 2 cents but, if you live in the city and do mostly stop n go traffic, the FR-S is not the best choice because it has a high reving engine.

So you are saying cars like the Lexus LFA which houses a six-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox (electrohydraulic transmission) and the Buggati Veyron which has a a dual-clutch transmission are not sports cars? I guess since both of their transmission types fall under the automatic category then they are not sports cars.

All of these are also non sports cars
BMW M3 and Z4
Ferrari Cali and 458 italia
Mclaren MP4-12C
Merc SLS AMG
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X
Nissan GT-R
Porsche 911

etc

Hey, you know what most of those cars have in common? over 290 horsepower in their engines, and they also use automated manual transmissions, not traditional automatics. The automatic transmission in the FRS is nowhere near the level of performance (nor is the engine output) that they are. so it is not an apt comparision. Also, most of the people who can afford those cars...like Paris Hilton and her LFA, can't drive a manual transmission.

The FRS is supposed to be a purist sports car. Lightweight, rear wheel drive, balanced chasis, and it was designed with a manual gearbox in mind.

Automated manual transmissions also fall into the automatic category of transmission types. Oh and if the FR-S was offered with a DCT it would be miles better than the manual version but obviously that would change the dynamics of the car and the price point. And I am not comparing apples to oranges, if you had 2 equally skilled drivers in a porsche 911 manual versus a 911 with a DCT, the one with DCT would accelerate faster and smoother. End of story.
