I have heard that it isn't cost-effective to buy a Prius in the hopes that your improved fuel economy will save you cash -- it generally takes about 100,000 miles for the cheaper gas costs to equal the increase in vehicle price.

BUT -- benefits like these sure change things! Tax breaks, carpool lanes and on-ramp priority, social awareness, a fundamental change in driving habits, etc... sure makes it look more and more appealing!

Prius and civic hybrid pay off after 75k of driving.

But as scionlife said, there's more than just $$$ involved. When a person buys a corvette they typically are buying for a very emotional reason. Same thing with many buyers of Priusususus. Many are making a statement and are doing it because it's the right thing to do.

Toyota is planning on giving a hybrid option on their complete line within 6 years.

If only there was a hybrid xB. I'd ****** it up immediately! And add a plug in option. I like the Prius technology, but it's not a body shape that will fit my lifestyle. Unfortunately, with Scion being the "youth" brand, I doubt we'll see it till the last year because of the added expense.
