SCION TEAMS UP WITH WHYVILLE TO TEACH KIDS ABOUT CARS
TORRANCE, Calif., April 18, 2006

Scion announced today its partnership with Numedeon, Inc. to help children learn about automobiles in the virtual world of Whyville, a fun and educational website for children ages eight to 15.

In Whyville kids create an avatar, a graphical persona, to represent themselves in the virtual world. Whyvillians are able to appreciate art at the museum, learn about rocket science in the Whyville Aeronautics and Space Administration (WASA), write for the town newspaper, eat, dance, explore the town, vote, and participate in other activities.

Whyville residents will be able to visit Club Scion, learn more about the brand and its involvement in the creative community, configure a Scion xB urban utility vehicle, and then purchase the car with “clams,” the Whyville virtual currency. xB owners will be able to customize their vehicle with accessories and graphics to create their own unique ride.

“Club Scion is a unique opportunity to introduce kids to cars and personalization,” says Adrian Si, Interactive Manager, Scion. “Our involvement in Whyville is a chance for young minds to flex their creative muscle and engage the Scion brand while learning about car culture and the enthusiast community.”

The xB will be the premier mode of transportation, besides the local bus and taxi service. As part of Whyville’s social scene, xB owners will be able to take their friends around town, hang out together and chit-chat during the ride, just like in real life. In addition, owners will also be able to attend special owners events and display their original xB creations in Club Scion, next to real Scion project cars, to showcase their tricked-out rides.

Whyvillians will also have access to finance programs through Club Scion in the near future that will teach them the basics about finance and credit.

Club Scion will go live in Whyville this spring. Visitors can reach the community at www.Whyville.net, or through the Scion website at www.Scion.com.[/quote]

Hmmm... I did a little bit of exploring in Whyville and couldn't find anything related to Scions. Maybe the little kids are smarter than I am.

Too many young kids where I live love at least the xB. I say let 'em have at it. Just make sure you have 'virtual insuance' and 'virtual accidents' to let them know what the world may bring them one day.
