Default Spy Shots Surface: 2008 Toyota Matrix

http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/1623

They call it a Vibe, but I agree with others that think they are wrong. It seems to be the Toyota version of the twins.

We haven't heard much of out of Pontiac lately, but it appears as though GM's performance division has been hard at work on a new version of its compact sport wagon. The 2008 Pontiac Vibe prototype caught in these recent spy photos looks a lot like the current model with its angular nose and sloping roofline. We expect it will stick with four-cylinder engines too, although an upgrade to something with more torque would be a welcome change. Expect to see this Vibe make its official debut in the spring with sales beginning next fall.

The grille is very Pontiac... the two cars do look similar, but I'm voting for it being a Pontiac.

And I thought the Matrix was getting discontinued in 08 or something?

The grill is a very similar mesh that the current Matrix uses. They fooled you with their black cardboard disguise!

IDK if anyone else heard about this but....pontiac is suppose to be a completely reardrive "performance" brand. Gm is even going as far as possibly discontinuing the g6 after its lifecycle. IDK if this is true but the above car looks very front wheel drive to me and that wouldnt fit their "performance" attitude verywell (especially with a GM knockoff of the caliber which that car strongly resembles). Can anyone say Chevy PT Cruiser2? (referring to the HHR)

Looks like a Pontiac Vibe in the front and an Aztec in the back.

Ummm... there is cardboard all over the back. The only area that you can see that is accurate is the fuel door and the rear window. Here is what the car looks like without the disguised areas:

Yep, the thing that stands out most (to me, at least) is the shape of the side windows and the roof, the way it slopes down. And I knew something on the grille didn't look right, but my brain kinda queefed out on me.

yup purty much. the vibe is actually the Toyota Voltz in Japan. my bro was going to get a matrix a while ago, so him and i did alotta research on them, and they are indeed very very alike.

the front does have that pontiac grill (line down the middle) and even more so for me to not believe its not a toyo is because if thats the new one for 08, i thought all the new cars were going to have the new grill design (i.e. the new camry and yaris). i gues well have to wait and see

It could be both cars. The first three pics are probably the Matrix. While the last two are probably of the Vibe. The last two pics have roof rack cover ups reminiscent of the racks on the Vibe. The first three pics do not have any roof rack coverups.

The current Pontiac Vibe is a "joint venture" between GM and Toyota (Wikipedia). It was designed as the Toyota Voltz. Maybe this explains the confusion.

But personally, I think it's a Vibe.
