I guess they must have removed the disguise on the Azteks.

As for the Matrix, is it just going to have the Corolla engine, since the "g" series is dead?

Most likely the Vibe version of the twins.... having grown up in Michigan, spent time by their proving grounds, and having scene many, MANY masked version of GM's vehicles.... I say it is the Vibe... The vehicle has Michigan Manufacturer plates on it.... last i checked... Toyota didn't test their nameplated vehicles out on GM land....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the default position for the exhaust on the vibe is on the right, and on the matrix, it's on the left...

...it appears in these pictures, the exhaust is on the right.

Toyota has a MASSIVE R&D facility in MI now - in Ann Arbor.

And we gussied up our trucks in IN to look like a Chevy Avalanche cause people were camping out on the bridge near the plant to get photos. It's actually plastic, not cardboard.

I hope there are some curves under that cardboard. Those shots look a little too similar to that pontiac blunder called the Aztec. I think we can trust Toyota though, not to be in bad taste with this new Matrix.

my aztek comment was tongue in cheek. Are the MI plate numbers different from photo to photo? my eyesight ain't what it used to be but it seems to go from 4 to a pchopped 3 that's higher than it should be....probably just me.

Nope, it's not you. The plates and rims are different, and they added a roof rack on one of them. Also, and I almost missed this one, but there are 2 people in one and 1 people in the other.

Oh, and I just noticed another thing. They did a different front bumper design.

yup purty much. the vibe is actually the Toyota Voltz in Japan. my bro was going to get a matrix a while ago, so him and i did alotta research on them, and they are indeed very very alike.

the front does have that pontiac grill (line down the middle) and even more so for me to not believe its not a toyo is because if thats the new one for 08, i thought all the new cars were going to have the new grill design (i.e. the new camry and yaris). i gues well have to wait and see
actually the voltz is the vibe. Toyota imported the voltz to Japan. I think the top one is the matrix and the bottom is the vibe.

If you look under the masking shroud in the back, it seems (to me), like the back end shares features of the Prius

Wow.

I thought the people on this forum were smarter than this...
"No it looks more like the vibe in the first... but more like the matrix here..."

Toyota Matrix and Pontiac vibe aren't more or less the same car they ARE the same car! That was a joint venture between Toyota and Pontiac to save on designs... Joint venture = they both have the same frame, and same body, same engine, same tranny with minor cosmetic differences. (I.E. fenders, headlights, taillights, grilles, interior) Make no mistake my friends they're one and the same freaking car.

So saying you can tell a difference between them (especially when it's covered up like a woman in Islamic society) is just silly.

I suppose the next topic of discussion is going to be how to tell the difference between de-badged Ford Escapes, and Mazda Tributes... (Another joint venture. Google it kids.)

You're thinking of the Toyota Voltz and the Pontiac Vibe, yo.

Also, there is just about everything different with the Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape.

So, yeah.

The Vibe is nothing more then badge engineering on Pontiacs part... it's a Matrix... my buddys dad has one and it's the same.. even has a Toyota engine.

I also thought, Pontiac was wanting to discontinue it because it wasn't a true Pontiac and all the positive press it was getting was upsetting the bigwigs and their egos....

So, yeah.

Soo, Uhhhh, yeah designs get updated kid...

That's like trying to compare a new F-150 with a 2001 F-150...

Look back at both models debuts, then keep in mind I said with minor cosmetic differences (like lights, bumpers, etc.)

Someone resize the Ford Pic please.... too lazy to do it on wonky work servers.

Toyota Vibe/ Pontiac Matrix...SAME CAR! LOL. I know i flipped them so don't flame!

We owned an XRS which is the same as the Vibe GT. We were going to get the vibe, but there where issues with the paint on some and the warranty was lower on the Vibe (why, I don't know other than GM doesn't want to warranty acar they don't build?) GM 3yr.36000 and Toyota 5yr 50000 and the price was 3-4 grand less on the Matrix...

The Vibe is assembled in California and the Matrix is assembled in Toronto Canada.

They are the same car, down to the engine cover! I even took mine in to a GM dealer before because we didn't have a Toyota dealer near us at the time.

If any of you get a chance to look in a Vibe AND Matrix, do so and you will see they are literally identical other than the outer cosmetics (as mentioned before...lights, rear windows, rear hatch, body kits and wheels, grills)

BTW, the exhaust is on the SAME SIDE on both cars....it IS the same car!

To those trying to compare the tribute to the escape...here's a better point....The Mazda Navaho and the Ford Exporer. Or the Mazda B2000 (older model) truck and the Ford Currier P/U
