31?! If I go by the computer avg it's gone up since I bought the car, but it currently sits at 27.1mpg and it's stock also manual and no wing.

I have an 08 xB and I like it because you can haul a lot of cargo, I don't see the Cube or Soul doing as much as they both look smaller. I think they should of atleast went for a gen 3 of the xB and dropping the xD, I hardly see any of those on the roads now but see a lot of gen 1 and 2 xB's daily.

I know xB1 owners like to hate on the xB2, but I love the extra power and space that was gained over the xB1.

That said, I'd love a Scion micro pickup truck...say something like the GMC Granite CPU concept.

It reminds me of an alien form Dream Catcher, the movie.

As a concept, I like it. As a real vehicle, look at Chevy SSR. How utilitarian it is/was?

My co-worker claims his 95 Escort gets 41-43 MPG while averaging 65-70MPH cruise speed.
Some people like to exaggerate a bit.

Some cars also like to be a bit pessimistic. My '04 xB's odometer reads 4% low, so MPG numbers will also be lower by that amount. If you run larger rims or tires the discrepancy will be even larger.

After correcting for this on my xB, the overall MPG has been very close to 30MPG. Not bad for an aerodynamic brick.

Some have lamented the lack of AWD on various vehicles. AWD is great if you really need it, but raises parts counts, weight and drivetrain drag. Back when Subarus were available in FWD or AWD versions that were comparable the penalty for driving all the wheels was about 3 MPG. Even if the AWD could be completely disconnected you still have the penalty of the hardware you have to carry.

Toyota has a habit of saying one thing and then doing another. Back at the beginning of Scion they said that no model would be repeated, but yet they brought out the xB2. You never know, they might get tired of all that money going up the street to the Kia dealer and decide to introduce an "all new xE" that looks remarkably like the 3rd gen bB! At least we can hope!

I for one, thought the original bB/xB was under-powered and needed short gearing to move out of its own way. Yes it gets god mileage despite its upright body shape , it should with such a tiny engine (1.5L) based on the Echo 1.5L which also got good mileage...

I like the 2nd Gen xB and even though some people call it a "Mini Van" for young people, its a functional hatchback with removable rear seats and a fair amount of power. It still gets decent mileage as well.

Guess if I want a new one... Never mind, not buying another car until I know where I am going to live, won't know that until sometime in 2013.

They need to market the xB like they do the tC and FR-S. When the xB get these reviews you don't want to kill it!

Well, I guess there's always the possibility...
http://www.batfa.com/new_car_toyota_bB.htm

Looks to be about the right size, but I find the styling to be an odd-ish combo of xB1, xB2 and Kia Soul.
Still, I'd rather this than NO xB...

My only beef with my xB2 is the auto transmission, 4 spd... really Toyota? Give it the 6 spd Camry trans and we are good to go. I also wish they would add more performance options on par with subaru with turbo and non turbo models.

As far as discontinuing models I think the xD should be the first to go, I was never a fan of them.

Now to you "JDM guys" the xB2 to me was a huge step up from the first gen, almost to the point (IMO) of needing a different model name. I did not like the first gen (I know blasphemy right?) small engine, small interior unusable for someone like me. When I bought my xB2 I was in the market for something stylish with room for my family and dogs that had some pep that I wouldn't hate driving everyday. I was looking at the turbo Subaru Foresters for a bit, Mazdaspeed3's and WRX hatch backs but price and insurance was going to be too high. The xB2 hit every need I had and I loved how they looked. To those who say it is a disgrace go put some JDM stickers and swap your badges for bB emblems.. I just don't get the trend personally unless it offers some significantly better looking parts. I never liked the square body on the first gen, to each his own. If you want to talk about ugly why don't you discuss the Kia Soul and Nissan Cube.

Anyway my rant is over, ending the age of the xB/xB2 is sad but if they replace it with something better, maybe with a V-6 or some sort of performance in mind I am all for it.

Change is good and it keeps things fresh.

I bought an xB new in 2006. It was the easiest car purchase I ever made. It was like buying a carton of milk. And the car has never disappointed. Thankfully, I got the stick for hauling around all my music gear.
It is geared a little low for long distance driving, but we still enjoyed the drive from our old home in Seattle to our new one in Central Kentucky.

The only problem I have with the later model is that it became, to some degree, just another minivan. I really like the smallness of the original on the outside, but the roominess on the inside for passengers.
People still comment when they get in it.

If I had to replace it, I'd look at the Cube first. But for my purposes here in Kentucky, I'd probably replace it with something like a tC or a Ford Focus hatchback.
I have a 100 mile commute (both ways) and am looking to probably almost double it in the next month or two.
Which brings to mind the singular thing I was disappointed with: No cruise control.

Funny you mentioned the xD. I person I worked with got an xD and one day he parked next to my 2006 xB. After sitting in it and checking out the size, I believe it had more in common with the original xB than the new xB does.

We added cruise control to our RS 3 xB. It was $399 at the time, and it's been great. Just turned 51K miles, and we'll own it forever. Lots of mods, and turns head to this day. Wherever we go, we go "Green."

Scion could have stuck with "one and done" by changing the name every time a new bodystyle came out. The second gen. xB, for example, should have been named something else (bB).

Agree with it or not, Toyota seems to be playing smart by having Scion offer more unique cars that don't exactly compete with Toyota models. Hence, get rid of the xD because it's too similar to the Matrix. Better this mission than killing off Scion because of a changing market/demographic, right?
