I bought a 06 scion tc 2 years ago used. Recently I got my car inspected (PA yearly). I failed because my driver side brake light doesn't come on. Well today I looked into it and the manual says the bulb can be replaced. So I drove on over to advanced auto and purchased the correct bulb. Went outside to pop it in and lo and behold I don't have a spot for a brake bulb, instead its LEDs but the other two are bulbs. Now the LED's actually work but won't come on when you apply the brake. Do I have to replace the entire part and if I do where can I find something similar?

Hey I'm new to the forums and have searched high and low for information but can't find it so hope someone here can help.

What taillights are one the car? You mention LEDs it sounds you have aftermarket taillights. Pics would help.

I'll take a pic once I can but the install looks like it's factory or really professional. Only the brake part is led and other two are bulbs. I need to pull em outta the car once I have time which might not be till Tuesday.

After giving it a moment to sink in, sounds like TYC taillights, is it these?


When it comes to LEDs it might be something with the circuit board
for it, IDK though.

Yeah those are it. The bottom white part lights red when the car is on. When the brake is allied oybthe 3rd brake light and passenger come on. Would injust need to buy a ee unit or there an easier fix?

The lights have been discontinued, so it'll be difficult to find a new set. Sometimes a single side can be found for sale. Repairing it, IDK, I'm not all knowledgeable when it gets into electronics, I let my brother handle that lol.
