So I have this headlight that was dim and sometimes wouldnt even turn on...after a little bit of investigation I found this:



I'm not sure what happens but you can see there is some gunk around the bulb and the silver metal rod is cracked in the middle. I'm unsure of why this happened and whether it is my fault, or is it a faulty bulb? and can I possibly force it together and fix it lol?

 

ive seen thatr happen when someone touches the bulb.

 

Yeapers, Who installed it? They tell you not to touch the bulb cause the finger prints make it melt like this.... or something like that.

I installed the bulb myself. Don't remember reading anything about not touching the bulb and can't remember if I did but it's extremely probable that what I did. I ordered a replacement and I'm glad I know what to do (or not do) now. Thanks!

 

It's the oil on your fingers.

 

Thanks, the guy that sold me mine also told me not to kept the head light switch on when i turned the key. Cause turning the lights on all suden make em die out fast.

 

its common sense not to touch the bulb ,1-there very sensitive 2-like others said oil from your finger gets on the bulb and eventually as you can see from the pic,that wil happen,most likely its not fixable,gonna have to get a new bulb

 

It could be your ballast, try checking that

The HID Ballast can cause the HID to burn like that. If it is not converting the power properly.

 

I ordered a new bulb. I'll check the ballast to be safe and not burn the new bulb also. What exactly would I be looking for?

 

i9 really dont think it would be the ballast. if it was, the wires would have melted/fried before that could even happen.

 

makes more sense. Wouldnt the fuse blow if it was the ballast?

 

may not, because the ballast takes the 12vdc and converts it into something crazy to power the bulb.
