Default Advice on this dent?

My car got dented. I noticed it when I was walking out of a store in the parking lot. Who knows how it happened. We all know people are inconsiderate of others especially when it comes to these things, so i'm not looking to flame them. I'm not even angry - its sad the way some people act. In any case, i'm looking for advice here. Here is the picture:

The dent is luckily fairly small. It is on the drivers side just above one of the panels (I guess the bumper) and is on what I call the side panel. (it fortunately JUST missed both panels and hit the side panel)

Its in an awkward place to suction it out. From experience, i'd say $200 or so if it doesnt need paint at a body shop. Any suggestions? I know its minimal, but it's my baby...[/img]

Pull the taillight off and I'm positive you'll be able to get your hand behind there and try to work in out. You may be able to even just pop it out.

as long as the paint isnt cracked, paintless dent repair...im sure they could get it from the inside by removing the interior, as for price, all is different but i recommend lookin into that...should be cheaper then a repair job and with a much quicker turn around, less then an hour labor...

I thought of taking the taillight out and I thought of removing the bumper. I just don't want to go through all of that unless I know that i'll have access to it. I could remove all of the interior in the car, there is mandos' thread on how to, so that shouldn't be bad, but again, i don't know that it will allow me to reach that area.

So you think I should bring it in to a shop? You can see that the paint is fine, so thats not much of an issue.

Anyone think that those suction cup dent removers could work?

I had a dent about the same size on my front passenger side fender and I took it to one of those paint less dent repair places "dent busters in phoenix" and the guy took it out for $150.00 and did a awsome job can't even see a flaw in the fender like as if nothing was ever there. Do that if you take it to a shop they are going to want to paint the whole side panel and that is big $$$$$

yea, if only there were a place like that around me. unfortunately, the best I have here are the body shops, and God knows they are going to want to paint it as you said.

I'm really hoping for some way of getting it out myself...

they sell a suction cup deal at autozone or the like, i wonder if that might be able to pull it back out. that thing has worked wonders for some past cars ive har. and its only like $3. maybe it would be worth a shot?

since it is on the edge of the panel, i'm not sure how well a suction cup would work

you could always just get a small rubber mallet and try to *LIGHTLY* tap it out. this is what a lot of bodywork guys do anyways for small stuff like this.

i'd definitely try that, i'm just not sure where I would be able to get the small rubber mallet b/c i don't know how I can get behind the panel

w00st3r, do you happen to have a link to what you're talking about, b/c what i'm finding is for minimum of $20. Anyway though, it may be difficult to do that as mandangalo said b/c of the location.

My 02 cents : Call your dealer and find out when their guy comes around to take out dents and such . More than likely , you can go there and talk to him and , if you have cash , he will probably do it off the " clock " so to speak and charge less . I went that route twice . They charge $ 99.00 for each time but , I paid cash . It cost me $ 45.00 each time . Cost my girlfriend $ 30.00 . Of course , she has breasts .

i dont have a link sorry. but if you go to any autozone they have it in the body repair section. they make a suction things that roughly 3-4 inches in diameter and sometimes you can find smaller ones for more intricit dings... that 'Pops-a-dent' thing might work as well

from the looks of the picture up there u don't need to remove the taillight. just remove the lil carpeted cover (its the one that just snaps into place with a couple of clips) and u should be able to get behind there. the body shop that installed my old kit shot a couple of screws behind that same place where ur dent is. i don't know if there is enuff room to put a rubber mallet in there but u could check.

Removing the taillight wouldn't do anything, anyway. The cutout behind the light is just big enough to fit the wiring harness into the vehicle. No chance on God's green earth could a man fit his hand through the hole.

^^Thanks for those, although I would like to avoid spending that kind of money, it is good information to have.

I tried all of those suction cup things already. I even tried that pop-a-dent thing that didnt work. I'd really like to be able to access it from the inside.

Does anybody know if I take off the fender liner in the wheel well if i'll be able to access that piece from the inside? That is my goal right now, but i'm not sure how to get there. This is a question for someone who REALLY knows this car! lol

I got a medium size dent on my left side on the rear. I just found out this afternoon and kinda knew something might have happen at 10pm on Friday. I live in NY for a while for college and I have to park my car on the street cuz the place I live have no garage and the drive way was taking by other people who live above me. I was so mad cuz it gave me a deep dent and a medium size scratch about 6 inches long and the paint peels off badly.... I just report the police department and the good thing is that I've full coverage insurance. I hate people who hit and run! I hate it when I have to live a place without a garage or a driveway.... my roommate picked this place and I thought it had a garage but I have to deal until the lease ends....

no that will not work, unless they drilled an access hole in the wheelwell, but thats usually a last option. the only possible way to reach that area would be from inside the trunk area. i havent had to take the interior apart, so i cant say im 100% positive, but from my experiences on cars that is an area that isnt usually blocked off from the inside. hell if thats not possible, they could also drill an access hole through the taillight housing to reach it probaly. u wont know till u get one of them to look at it...
