Default back up lights fail - baffled

some time ago i noticed that both my reverse lights weren't working. logical first step was to replace the bulbs, which did not fix the problem. i finally found and checked the fuse (7th one in the interior fuse box if i read the manual right) and the fuse seemed fine. any ideas what it could be then? tail lights work fine, car reverses fine. I have a couple of hundred miles left before i hit 100k and i'm going to see if this can be taken care of under the extended warranty i purchased (and have yet to use for anything) when I bought the car. would this be covered under it? any ideas on what to check next? would appreciate any input.

If you can see if your getting any voltage or a good ground when in reverse at the lights.

Here are some things you might try to help troubleshoot... Disconnect the Backup Light Switch... It is a little gray connector on the top or your transmission... Then with the car in reverse, with a multi-meter check for continuity between the 2 pins on the sensor... This will tell you if the sensor is bad... You can also check for power at that same connector... For this turn the ignition to ON, then with a multi-meter from Pin 2 "black wire" to a know ground you should get 12v power... If not then there is a bad fuse, relay or a short somewhere...

im guessing there is probably a problem with the plug that plugs into the reverse sensor on the tranny or the sensor is bad

I'm having the same exact issue and yesterday they just started working again for no reason in particular, now I gotta renew my inspection before they decide to stop functioning again. Btw does your hand brake light come on sometimes as your shifting gears?
