Blacking out the tail lights
Hey guys, I'm sure this has been covered before but the threads I searched had like 2 responses.
I have a silver 07 tc (almost a month old) and I've seen a lot of pictures online and some at my university that have the rear tail lights really darkened and I think it looks really good on the scion. I'm just curious to know who's done it and how much they got it for and if it will cause any trouble with scion about the warranty.
Thanks a lot,
David.

warranty trouble? hardly. what on your taillights is covered under warranty? i do my own taillight tinting and havnt had any issues. ive done 1 really dark set and so far he has not gotten a ticket and hes had them for months.

its all personal preference. you can tint them, but i think it looks cheap. i use vht nightshades, a couple light coats of clear coat, a couple heavy coats of clear coat, wet sand them flat then polish them out. factory shine

if you do it yourself about 22 dollars in materials. vht nightshades is about 15 shipped. 5 dollars for clearcoat. couple bucks for sandpaper. and if you dont have polish and wax another 10. personally ive been doing sets for people locally and i do them for 50 with stock swap, but they are wetsanded smooth. if you dont wetsand them you get an orangepeel effect, and if you do wetsand them you get an aching back because it is very tedious.
i would rather pay someone with the know how and the ability to do a great job, got my professionally done by a homie here on SL named guitarguru44 - joe - and i couldnt be happier....
thank you thank you! yeah i just think that if you pay someone to do it, you cant lose.
i mean think about if you do buy all the materials to do this, then you have to spend all the time sanding, painting, clear coating, polishing, painting(not in that order of course) then if you mess up you have to do it all again, TIME AND MONEY LOST.
pay somone who has done it numerous times with great results a lil more spendy but definately worth it in my opinion.
its all up to you, some like to DIY, some like to have it done by professionals, but in essence, professions are DIYers with a boatload of experience, and how do you get that experience? by doing it and not having someone else do it.
i am confusing myself
i guess what i am trying to say is: ITS ALL IN THE HIPS!
jk jk ita all in your hands man!do what u want
dont get me wrong, i love to DIY, but sometimes, leave it to the pros, and thats what i do with painting/tinting.
edit: wow i had so many errors in there i had to edit it like 5 times! sorry for those who couldnt read it! :D

yeah jigga man I saw yours when i was searching for this thread looks niiiiice. Hey to all who's done this my friends who are "experts" with car knowledge say it's definitely illegal to have them. This really bums me out but I'd like to hear back and see if this is true or not. I mean it makes sense do to reduced vision for the other drivers but i dunno.
I got a ticket in Manassas for "Illegal Equipment" because of the tinted tail lights. Most people don't get hassled for it, but if you keep the area around the actual brake light untinted, you'll be fine. I went with the Blue Batmobile overlays since they're easier to modify/change if needed/wanted.
^^^lookin sweet man. and yeah manassas is like half hour from leesburg area cops can be ___ sometimes. Will it still look as good if you don't tint the brake light as much? anyone have a pic like that?
