I was looking into tinting my tail lights so I looked up the laws. You can go to www.findlaw.com and click Traffic Violations--->State Traffic Laws---->Choose your state---->Mechanical Violations. Then look for a heading that covers Brake Lights.
i.e. in KY where I live, as long as the light shines red when the brake is applied and is visable at 500ft then you are ok.
however if you live in Texas your brakes must be red WITHOUT the brake applied and seen at 300 ft in the daylight.

Pictures of the tail lights in direct sunlight. Kind of a medium tint but it's what I was going for, especially since cops in California are really touchy about tint and blacked out tail lights.
Technically these ARE illegal in California (like everything else), but as long as there is somewhat of a hint of the red reflector and the turn signal is visible from 200 feet away (day and night) it shouldn't be any problem. This is what my brother-in-law told me and he's a cop.

Got mine from www.Jonstintedtails.com
$225 shipped for a whole new set of tails. Its cheaper if you send him your lights and have them tinted. Turned out great.
