I was having the same dillema.. I just ended up pushing really hard and almost by accident the one side of the lower grill popped inwards.. from there once I got that one side started it was easy to work across the grill to the other side popping the tabs on it. I didn't take off the bumper either, I stuck my hand down through the upper grill opening and pushed from the back/pulled from the front to pop the new grill back in.

I'm scurrred to take off the bumper!

taking off the bumper was esy only hard part was rembering where all the bolts and plastic tabs went

Nothing to be scurred about. I was scurred too for my first time, but I just noted down where all the pieces went and it was a breeze. By the 2nd or 3rd time you will be able to remember where everything goes without any help.
