unless your riding the brake, there's really no reason the brake lights should be turning on, unless you wired something wrong...

Check your brake pads. If they're low, your brake fluid will be low, which is causing the light to come on as the fluid sloshes around.

And if your eBrake isn't holding the car on a hill, you need to adjust it (or change the pads if needed). If you search for adjust ebrake you should get some results. You want to try to adjust it at the drum first... and if that doesn't help, you can adjust it at the handle.

you mostlikely need to adjust your ebrake (never understood why toyota didnt have it right to begin with) my ebrake had to be ALL THE WAY UP to hold the car on a tiny hill, even then i could still push it with my foot lol. now its perfect! just adjust it, its real easy!

Like I said... if you're light is coming on intermittently, especially during acceleration, it's b/c the fluid is sloshing around and/or low. And if it's low, it's likely b/c your front brake pads are low (so more fluid is in the line, instead of the reservoir). So I wouldn't just go adding fluid. Be sure to check your front pads.
