Real CF is not cheap.........a 100 foot roll 4 feet wide is around $1500.........so it is about $4 a square foot.........it has to be kept refigerated 24 hours a day in a deep freezer..........and needs to be cut placed in tool, layered, vacumed, over and over then put under final pressure vacume and auto claved for 12 hours..........then taken out and trimmed in a jig to size.........the good part is it is a simple piece and could be made relativly easy...........I will email them and put a vote for it as well........could be amoney maker for them...........

Sweet, thx for the info, I don't know **** about CF, but if your saying it cost all that, then yeah I'd say their pieces on there are legit then for the pricing. Lets all spam them to do it!!!!! No seriously though, if they say get a group together we have GOT to do this! Specially if they are the only provider of the product...wow they would get a good bit of money from it.

Ok guys, got an update for you from the company, both good and somewhat bad! Here it goes, the reason for bad is after this.

What I originally sent:
Hi, saw a link to your site about CF pieces for the Scion tC. You say to contact you for suggestions. Well, I have one In fact a few of us have one. We are looking for a company that can create a OEM size Carbon Fiber piece that will replace the stock wind deflector on the tC. We are building up interest for it right now. The issue is that the glass breaks when it gets hit by a rock. We are looking for something that can absorb the impact of a rock and keep on going, but still look OEM. Is there anyway you guys could help us on this? I'm sure we can start pulling more people into the "support" part of it as soon as we announce that we have a company that is willing to do this for us for a reasonable price. Currently our deflector has hinges at the bottom of it and a horizontal bracket that goes across the entire center of it and uses like a double sided tape to hold it in place. Can't you let me know if you guys would be interested in making these? There is currently no other company doing this.

Thread:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...r=asc&&start=0

Thanks for any info!

Jeremy

What they replied with:
Jeremy this would be a great addtiuon to our line.
all i need is the OEM one to work with, im working with several
TC owners as donors, but since you brought it up i would rather
do it with you.
can you lend me the stock part???
Paulo.
C12 carbon components.

What I just replied back with:
Are you going to need the just the glass part or the bracket as well? I currently don't have anything wrong with mine at this time, but if I know what part you will need I can see about working a deal with someone I know one getting it cheaper so I don't have to mess mine up to send to you guys. Like I said there's a good bit of interest in this right now and we look forward to working with your company on designing and testing this out. I know when I posted in the thread that I contacted you guys, another fellow Scionlife member said he was going to send your company an email saying he votes for you guys to make it too. Whether or not he did I don't know, he's currently not online at this moment. I'll work on some price quotes, just let me know what you will need. Thanks a lot!

Now the good/bad

The good is, they are interested in making this for us. The potential bad, I don't have one to give them. I'm not going to take off my, as of right now, perfectly good one, with the potential of it breaking since I can't afford to fix it However, I'm going to contact one of the guys from TRDSparks, give him the run down on what we are trying to accomplish, and see if there is anyway he can give us a decent discount on it. I just checked their catalog and its going to run 270 without shipping and thats just for the glass, not the brackets if they are going to need those then I'd have to add them to the cart. They might be able to help us out a little more, I'll check. If that's the case though. Would any of you be willing to setup kinda like a "pitch-in" fund to so that its all split evenly and we get them the part(s) that they need so they can work with them and duplicate what we need? I just configured it so that to include everything for the sunroof, minus the middle and rear glass panes, its going to be 425.44 shipped. Now if they can hook us up with another discount it could be lower but if not, we would have that price to deal with. Calculated, if we have 5 people pitch in 85.10 a person. In the case the more people the merrier Again, that's if they require everything. If they just need the glass we are looking about 300shipped, or 60 bucks. I'm open to suggestions so feel free to throw them out there guys!

Company is https://www.shop.retro-spec.net/cate...?categoryId=22 Prices seem reasonable to me b/c I don't know how much real CF things go for. Their products are not decals or plastic.

EDIT: Just noticed the original link didn't work, new link has been inserted.

LOL THIS IS FUNNY, I WORK WITH THIS COMPANY lol.. i'm meeting up with them in vegas and putting there parts on my car i was gonna talk to mike his partner and tell him about the deflector, i have a new deflector that i can give them to make a mold lol.. i'll let you kno how it goes i'm meeting up with them on sat.

Mike is a good guy... but what happened with FWW is a semi-long story. Its done with now, and no need to bring up the dead

lol ironicly no, just the same name lol. its really mikey from teamprototype.com there business partners with paulo and basically firmwares original competition, i'm trying to help them start where firmware left off. Firmware seems to be starting over again with the new management and just only on smaller parts. so i'm working on trying to get paulo to get new parts made, and get firmware in good standing with the people on the board.

also i will create a thread to get info on parts owed etc.. on firmware parts, i'm unsure on my standing with them anymore but i want to help everyone out as much as i can so i can pass the information over to them.

hopefully that clears things up and i hope when i meet mikey in vegas he can checkout my wind deflector and hopefully get a rough idea on the time span and price range.

As in no more glass on the top? I wouldn't, unless one of them breaks, my friends like having it open to look through...can't look through CF I'm more interested in the deflector right now, but like I said, if one breaks then I'd be more than happy to go CF all the way lol.

Sweet, will do man! Yeah I hardly have anybody in my back seats too, but it would suck if they look through the two roof things and they notice its no longer a sun roof. How reliable would CF though for those two pieces? I'm talking about wind noises, such as whistling and stuff, and keeping water out. Since CF is lighter would it still have enough weight to keep pressure down on the seals while the one is closed and the one that is stationary?

well i finally got the piece of polycarbonate lexan milled and installed on my car with some adhesive molding tape .. looks good .. we will see tomorrow how it handles the heat .. cuz thats the problem i expect .. if it warps and comes up .. im gonna have to screw it down .. thats how the plexi broke the last time .. so im gonna try a different way of doin it .. a friend said the fewer screws the better .. and elongating the holes to allow for flex would help .. im just hopin i dont have to do that .. and by the way .. the piece of Lexan was 50 bucks .. and the body shop that installed it only charged me 50 bucks .. so 100 bucks overall .. not bad .. even tho this is the 2nd time i did somethin with it .. im hoping for better results with the lexan .. ill post pics at the next event i go to of the new wind deflector ..

yeah .. ya do need it .. it affects the aerodynamics of your roof when ya dont have it .. i had mine off for a little while while they were fixin it .. and it makes a huge whistling noise on the highway .. very very annoying .. heh ..

well i have the new piece on (lexan) .. here are a few pics of it ..
