Hey, I was just applying the 3rd coat of clear on my wheels and the clear coat wrinkled up the paint bad. I let the wheels dry over night before starting the clear coat, wtf? Hopefully it is just the clear that wrinkled and not the black paint. Can I just wetsand with 2000 and clear again?

 

Pics? It depends how bad it is. I doubt a 2000 grit will do it. I'd use a 1500 at least, sand all the clear off & start the clear all over.

 

I would try 1000 or higher depending how bad it is. it most likely wrinkled cause you put it on to heavy.

 

....or didnt let the other coats dry enough.

 

 

Looks like you used a cheap clear also

 

dupli-color clear that I used on interior stuff. Should I wetsand with 1500?

 

how was the temperature and humidity out when you cleared it?


Both can be large determining factors. .

 

they may be two different types of paint, one may of been laquier, and one may of been an enamel, that is wat happenes wen you use two different types of paints cuz it happened wen i sprayed my bike.

 

If I wetsand, can I just leave it flat? or will that expose the paint and be susceptible to rock chips and rub off when I wash the car? I used VHT wheel/caliper paint and dupli-color auto clear coat.

I'd say... take it to a body shop and have them fix it for you.

^? The tires are fine, I tapped everything off...everything was going perfect until that 3rd coat of clear...

 

I am looking for help with the wrinkling issue, so far it's sand with either 1000 or 1500 and redo the clear, is that what everyone else thinks? Here is what it looked like before...see everything is FINE.

 

and? I used a whole roll of painter's tape to tape the tires up TWICE! I did have to first spray with black, let it dry, and tape again to spray with orange...do you see any orange on the tires? No, because there was tape on them. I'm sorry but your post doesn't help the issue at hand, so *POOF* be gone! and take Yanki with ya

 

You need to sand off all that crap and start over clean. That stuff is going to start to chip as soon as you put some miles on them. Next time dont use clear out of a rattle can..

 

That usually happens if you apply too much clear on a wet painted surface.

 

Humidity and temp affect paint dry time....prob had something to do with that.
