Clear coat wrinkled paint, HELP!
Oh dear...........Corina it has been too damp and cold here the last two weeks to do any painting.............unless it is a heated shop with a dehumidifier going...........
You are gonna be in for some tired hands........if you have to use a paint remover tool like a sander pad.........that goes on a air drill or cordless drill and tear the paint off and then get to metal and prime it with black primer..........then after 48 hours of the rims beign in the warm temps inside hit it with the black paint.........let that sit for 48 hours after 4-6 coats.......light coats..........never paint thickly.......never.
after 48 more hours you can hit them with 4-6 light coats of clear..........
If needed I can come help get them right again..........I spend a lot of time painting stuff ..........this week is Cindy's cell phone case in the car color..........a girls gotta match.....

Heres what you wanna do buddy, remove the paint with stripper or use like a 320 or 400 grit sand paper. Once its clean go ahead and apply the paint, do it in light coats but not too light. If its too light that = early paint failure by pealing. Your best bet is using medium coats on the light side. Then give it a 5 - 10 min flash time between each coat. Then clear the paint with 2 medium wet coats then a final wet coat, You dont want to let the paint sit for more then 8 hrs until you clear. there's a tack time with paint. So after the color you want to clear it after maybe 30 min. I give it about 20 min before I go over with a clear coat. If I'm shooting it form a gun I either use a medium coat and a thick final coat or 2 thick coats, if I'm rattle canning it I do 2 medium coats then a wet coat.
ALSO! Keep in mind paint is chemistry. Only the right chemicals will work with each other and I learned this the hard way. I once used rattle can primer which was a lacquer primer on something for a friend of mine. THat worked well, then I used a urethane paint and clear and it started wrinkling like that. Usually if it wrinkles like that its either you had grease or oil on the wheel, or you had 2 chemicals that dont bond.
^yeah, I used two different types of paint.
Weird, I just got home and almost all of the wrinkles have disappeared! I guess it was the temperature inside. I just finished sanding the lip and think I will leave it flat black instead of trying to clear them.
