Default a cool idea for anyone with a 5MT tc.

As you know many autos are getting the shift boot that makes our cars (including mine..lol) look like a manual. I personally like the way the auto looks instead of having the boot there. My idea was, instead of the auto looking like a manual, what about a manual looking like the auto. Ok that came out wrong, but if done right, can the manual look like this?

I just think its a cool idea with the "slotted" look. lol

and there are my two cents.

leave the lambos and ferraris with that. the boot looks better on the tc and shifting would have to be so prceise cause u might miss gears hiting the the tabs between the bears.

I prefer the shift boot, but if you have some stainless steel accents elsewhere in the cabin, that might look pretty cool

I have never liked those gated shift plates. They are ok on a VERY precise tranny, but on most it just makes shifting harder to accomplish. Looks nice, but wouldnt want it on our car.

I was acutally looking into machining a bunch of these and selling them on here, but after taking a few measurements, I found it is not possible.

The surface mount of the boot is so close to the pivot that there is not enough room to put in a metal bar inbetween gears. The shifter just does not move enough from side to side.

My other idea was to have at rectangular plate with a small circle cut in the middle for the shifter and a rubber gasket, but after mearsuring for that, I found that the shifter is not centered in the console, so it would be about 5/8" off and look funny.

THIS WAS ALL TESTED WITH A B&M SHORT-THROW. It may work with a stock shifter.

do you know if you can replace the center console trim of an automatic with a manual console?

or in simpler terms..

take off the center console from auto and replace it with a manual version with the shift boot and everything..
