Default Deciding on window tint

I cannot decide on 5% all around for my stepdaughter's BSP TC or 5% for all except the windshield, maybe for that about 20%. Part of me says that the 5% all around will be too dark for her to see out, while the other part tells me to just go for it all 5%. I know it will look good regardless.

5% on the windshield would be too dark...and probably illegal.

5% is really dark, she will not be able to see out of her windshield. the lower the number the darker it is. 20% all around is probably best. why would you get the windshield done in the first place?? I know its illegeal here in NY but don't know about where you are.

Tinting windshield in most states is plain illegal. Few let a really light tint like 70 but 5 is just insane. Yoour daughter with get pulled over by cops all the time. Plus if she even gets into addicent insurance won't cover you since windshield had such crazy dark tint everthing will be 100% your fault even it you got t-boned. A 5% would look great don't get me wrong but then might as well be a show car. If u do decided to get 5 all around even windshield take some pics and post them darkest i seen a tc front was 30.

Here is site that has a chart of whats legal in each state. http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Consumer_In...statelaws.html

You can go dark then legal but be smart about it like in NY we only allowee 70 with is stock and looks clear but i have 25 all around and windshield clear. I went much darker then the law but during day with all the light coming in through front it makes the sides look alot lighter so i haven't been pulled over yet.

how about you dont tint the windshield at all........
(unless you hate your step daughter and want her to die)
99% of tint shops wont even touch a windshield anyway

Thanks for the advice fellas. Im leaning towards 5% all around except the windshield being about 20-30%. I will post the pics when I get her done.

Good question...The chart shown indicates 30% is max in your state.
You are looking for trouble...

Yeah, 5% is gonna prevent her from seeing what kind of car is behind her (cop car?). 20% is perfect, gives you enough visibility so you can see someone inside during the day, but looks pretty dark at night.

anyone know the exact law in NY State. I heard that you can't even tint the front driver and passenger window. And back windows are 35% max. I'm gona tint my front driver and passenger windows regardless. But not the windshield, I'd rather be able to see then have a cool lookin car.

wtf indeed! It's 70% in NY... wtf is even the point of paying to tint your windows in that case? dang

hmm... is it ok if a person with a tint legal in one state travels to a state where their tint would be "illegal"... would they get a ticket for that?

I would think they wouldn't...

Technically you are right tc stock tints from factory is already 70%.

Yeah NY has some of the strictest laws on tints but i live in NYC and drive to work out in long island everyday with 25% and never been stopped. For those of that live here, we know LI cops are real ball breakers when in comes to modified cars. If i get stopped and cop actually uses the device to measure the tint, i am screwed but trick is not to let it get to that point. Since so many cars have tints almost every tints is illegal so they only go for the really dark tints. By me that usually if you under 20 you asking for trouble. A lot of people go for 35 all around and clear windshield cops don't even give them second glance since it looks so light during the day.

Since the guy is in Illinois and there they have 30 as legal limit he can get away with 5 all around as long as he leaves windshield clears. If you tint windshield all bets are off and good luck to you.

As for out of state cars as long as your car is legal in the state that it registered in your find.

As a parent you shouldn't be tinting a kids windows at 5%... its not safe and its not legal. That doesn't send a very responsible message to a kid..
