I was in my aunt's garage and noticed she had one of those big propane weed-burners. I noticed the tip looked really cool in that it was the bluish-gold seen on many exhaust tip. Do you guys think that I could do this to my Tsudo exhaust myself? Sorry if this has been covered, and sorry if this is the wrong section.

 

test it on part of the exhaust that doesnt show, I was actually just wondering about something like this the other day lol

 

Couldn't tell you how this would work. I know on motorcycle headers thet will turn blueish at the bend if running lean. I think the issue would be getting a heat source that makes a clean line on the tip and doesn't just burn up the whole thing, exhaust gas is a pretty constant temperature and below the melting point of steel, getting a flame to the same temp would be pretty hard to do.

On that DIY posted above it says it'll work on stainless. I think it will. I'm gonna do it this weekend if I have time. It seems pretty simple and straightforward...

^Well no **** sherlock but I'd rather try this as its free. I'll mess around with it. Not expecting much out of it and dont expect it to work, thats why i'll try it on a part that doesnt show to see if it works.

 

i'm assuming the tip on the weed burner is brass or copper is why it looks like that SS can't produce that burnt finished look unfortunatley it just turns gold.

 

Hmm... Yeah Idk what it was made out of it just made me think. I'll give it a try just to confirm it. Gold could look cool, If it comes out right.

Well you seem to know a lot about this. Care to extrapolate? Have you done it?

 

I saw pictures of someone doing it to a HKS hi-powered exhaust on the Lexus forums. He used a $20 blow torch and went around the exhaust tip. It'll work with stainless steel and titanium but don't heat it for too long cause it'll turn a really blue color to purple then to brown and after that could look like s***. Be steady about it too when going around.
