DIY write up for aftermarket fogs?
I'd also like to know how to mount the aftermarket foglight onto the bumper. I bought PIAA 1400 off ebay and they are just sitting in original package and waiting for me to install... but I don't want to take my bumper off and put it back without installing it... requesting a DIY...
are you planning on taking off your bumper to do the install? I wasn't going to. I was going to drill holes through the scoops into the engine and run the wires through the little hole and just mount the fogs by drilling into the scoop also. I was going to put my front up on some ramps so i could easily get under everything and be able to reach around to wire it all up. I'm planning on doing the install tomorrow too most likely. I did the underbodys yesterday and they look great :D
PIX OF THE UNDERBODY NOW !!!!
I mounted mine in teh scoops like so:
a: Take off the floor panels (pain but once you get the hang it's easy, they're only screws after all).
b: Pushed out the scoop fake backs (so I had room to mount teh fogs further in and somewhere to feed the wires out.
c: positioned, test, positioned, test, double check, test, drill holes.
d: bolt into place.
e: attach ground to teh little bolt that you'll see when you're under there.
f: attach the power to the relay which I velcrod the the engine bay strut tower just up from the fuse box (soon to be replaced by a proper plastic box that won't leak).
g: attach other end of that relay pin set to the battery.
h: Attach the other end of the other pin set to ground.
i: Find a wire under the dash that goes live when you want your fogs to be live, tap and wire to a switch in teh switch panel.
j: Take a long wire from the other side of that switch through the firewall into the only pin left on the relay.
k: Test, resposition, test, resposition, tighten, test
l: replace floor panels
m: drive around looking for fog.

Sounds good - Could you post any pics of how you mounted them. I would like to see. I'mma do mine tomorrow. The floor panels you speak of, i'm assuming is the splash guard (black plastic thing on the underside of the front bumper). I have a sh*tty digital camera so my pictures don't come out good at night. There is one shot of the underbodys in my profile though.
OK, rough photo's:
a: Under the front find all the screws that connects the splash gaurd and unscrew them (you could also just remove the bumper) - wow check out that bumper rash )glad I didn't drop the car):

b: I mounted mine to the bottom of the scoop, drilled some holes and used the bolts that came with the fogs (this was actually a nightmare, the bracket for the fog can only be bolted if the fog housing is not attached, trying to attach it after the bracket was bolted in was a nightmare due to the lack of side spacing - mine go almost flush side to side.

C: wires up from the corners to around the fuse box (no photo's as I'm not taking the splash guards off unless it's needed), tap the power - I did this straight off the battery...

d: OK, this is the 'brains' of the operation, red wire is power, blue is switch ground, black is the power to the fogs and yellow comes from inside the car (see later).. This is currentlt velcro'ed to the strut tower, I'm trying to find a plastic box I can put here to contain all these 'bits and bobs'.

Close up of the relay:

Yellow wire vanishing off through the rubber nipple in the firewall.

e: Yellow wire is fed all the way down to the drivers side fuse box.

Where it is attached to one side of an OEM switch you can get from Home-Depot for $5 (this will be replaced by one from 4x4 rocker off ebay, which is lite).

f: other side of that switch is that awful taupe colored wire. After some pocking around with the meter, I found a wire that went live when the parking lights -> high beam where on, but went dead when the ignition was off, and the drivers door was opened (this is I believe on the spare plug that is for the OEM fog install - interestingly enough) so I just taped that with my urrghh taupe wire.

And that's it.

Now if I can work up the ***** I'm going to replace my 55w H3 bulbs with 85w (or maybe the 100w I already brought on a whim). They are metal projector housings so i don't see to much of an over heating issue.

Thanks for the help with the fogs. Removing the splash guard shouldn't be a problem, I drilled through it to mount the front underbody tube (pics coming tonight). Are those Hella projectors? Because mine look just like it but with a clear projector. Where did you find the supposed connector to the OEM fog lights? I have nothing to test the current and figure out something that turns on with the headlights but off when the key is not in the ignition. Could you tell me where i can get ahold of that plug and the color wire and everything you taped it to? It looks to be green with black stripes, but i want to be 100% sure. Thanks. I will take pics of my mounting tonight.
The white plug is not connected to anything (as pictured above) in the drivers side fuse area.
As you can see it has 6 wires going into it, just tap the one in the picture it's a sort of green with silver strips, that's live when you want it to be.
yes the fogs are hella.
They are actually the fake CF ones (I resprayed them) the lense I painted with a stain glass window paint pen (available any any of those scary craft shops), crazy yellow lights now

yea that's what i thought. I was going to get the fake CF ones, but i don't really like that look. Decided to go with the flat black and the clear projector. We will see how it all goes tonight. My install should be identical to yours. Time to print this out for reference :D
where is the actual fire wall? I've been wiring everything through a hole we drilled in the engine bay to wire my 4 guage amplifier wires. It would be nice to not have to try to squeeze everything through that little hole still.
ok - mounting the projectors went well. I unfortunately didn't take any pictures of it though. I took some pictures of how i mounted the underbodys though. Take a gaze:
Mounted on the sides. They are bolted into the inside of the sideskirt. I didn't want to drill up because i didn't know what was up there. Wasn't too hard. They are mounted right under the underside of the car. Real easy.

Another shot

Here is the rear. If you look under the rear side, there are two little metal pieces sticking out which are definitly the best thing to mount to. The back was by far the easiest. Just drill and mount.

ok front bumper: I dremeled out a straight line through the splash guard, and then drilled holes to put some all weather zip ties through to strap the underbody tube into place. Not too bad, just time consuming.

and there we have it. Any questions, ask me.

You have the same set as me, I think.
Couple of questions:
- Sides are bolted, bolted to what, are there holes there?
Did you're come with a huge blue controller? Did you put that in the car, how did you get the cable - the big fat thick one through the firewall ?
good job on that.
