Default Exterior door handle removal

Does anyone know how to take off the door handles and lock mechanism. I tried exploring it myself, and im sure its not too difficult, but i didnt want to do any irreversable damage to my handles, lock, linkage ect... I've searched and searched previous threads thinking someone would have a DIY on how to shave the door handles and maybe the process of removing the door handles would be on there, but I've had no such luck. I'm not looking to shave my door handles, I need to get inside the outer cover of the lock, I'm gonna install a super white LED under each door handle and wire them with the dome lights that have a gradient effect, I think it'll make a nice courtesy light. Kind of similar to the 2006 beemers. Its something i havent seen anyone attempt or post about so I'm hoping to be the first.

Any help or advice in getting the door handles off will be greatly appreciated.

Don't pay any attention to Chrischoi, he usually doesn't offer anything of benefit anyway as he is just a postwhore.

Have you looked through the tech section yet? There might be something in there. I would look for you, but I'm hungry.

I would say that there are most likely some screws or clips on the inside of the door... best bet would be to remove the door panels and see what you can find.

i did remove the door panels, tried to give it a look, there were two torx head screws that i saw, i tried loosening them, but nothing really happened. like i said, i just want to be sure on how to dismantle it, i dont want to break anything.

Yea... hmm you might want to check the door handle on the outside... (this is just a guess) maybe there is a screw or clip showing when you pull it.

try asking some of the guys who have had their tC's custom painted, they had to remove the handles to do it right, that might be your best bet

See if your local dealer could print you the picture of the door lock and handle. That might give you some insight. I would be willing to fax you a copy if you PM me your fax number. It looks to me like just 2 screws hold the handle on from the inside, and there is a link rod that goes to the door latch.
Just curious...what are you going to fill the hole with?

im not removing it permanently, i am just trying to get the plastic that covers the lock on the outside of the door off, so i can put an LED on the bottom side for a courtesy light when you unlock the doors.

the is AWESOME!! now all i need is to find where the gradient controller is located (that causes the dome lights to fade in and out) so i can tap into that. once again, ive searched posts, tech section, etc.. and I've found nothing. Does anyone have any idea?
