Are Foglights really worth it?
The way fog lights work is that they project light very low and very wide so that you can see the painted lines at the sides of the road, not to manipulate light to cut through fog (as thats nearly impossible with any street legal lights).
interesting thing though about fog. you can see through it better with blue tinted sun glasses.
when i was driving in the very early morning from florida to maryland, i was resting my sunglasses on my forehead in anticipation of dawn, but instead if fogged up, and after a while, the sunglasses slipped down over my eyes and i could actually see further through the fog. not crystall clear, but i could see silouettes of the vehicles ahead of me with the sunglasses on before i could see them without them on. i was pleasently surprised.
(please note, this was durring sunrise in the morning, i do not reccommend doing this at nighttime in the dark)

Fog lights do work because they are positioned lower so they project below most fog. real fog lights also have a wider beam than headlights.

And the yellow is a classic safety feature. Most cars (in Europe and Japan. In France it was mandatory for them to be yellow until 1990's) had yellow headlights standard until some time in the late 80s early 90s.

question to people with VRD fogs, is your driver side foglight lower than the passenger when you light it up to the wall... mine is, the driver side is lower than the passenger, i asked vrd and they say its normal because its the cutoff for the oncoming traffic on the left side. is this true? and also it seem like my driver side is dimmer than the passenger, is it normal?

I didn't get a chance to check this morning because I woke up a bit on the late side, so that means I stay at work a little longer today. Well, I have to stay until I finish what I'm working on, so I don't think I'll be leaving any time soon. I just hope I can go before midnight.

mktr: so after work, I called my friend who is car sitting for me to check, and the driver's side is lower than the passenger's. The light output seemed the same though. I can't see this personally until I return to SD, but from my buddy's point of view, it's the same.
