I've heard that that's pretty dangerous -- having the front plate on the dash. If you get in an accident, that thing's gonna fly and cut someone...

I can't say for sure about California, but out here that is illegal. The law typically states that the plate must be mounted on the front end of the car within a certain number of inches from the ground. Check your local vehicle code (available at any library).

I have Billet grilles on the front and the front plate will cover about half of the lower grille. I have a buddy that has an Audi A6 who trimmed his license plate down by cutting the "California" off the top. He then bought a couple of black frames and fabricated them to fit his smaller plate. Looks good.

I valet cars at work and a majority of the cars that come in have no front plates. I also see people who put plates from germany in front instead of a cali plate. I guess it makes it look like they imported the car or something

NO- at least not in Maryland. You will get a ticket for not having a front plate. I know first hand... $50!

I have been looking for other cars that have similarly shaped bumpers to find a really good looking license plate mount... so far no luck.. I wish scion would make one that fit the contour of our cars.

Funny thing is that I like US plates especially in the states where u can use only only one the back, even if they are fat, not skiny like in Europe, and I'm from Europe (both plates in every single country as I know). Everybody just trying to be different

Go to home depot, buy 2 5/8's by 1 and 1/2" bolts with 4 washers and 2 5/8's nuts. It cost me all of $2.00 and 5 minutes of my time. If people in IL don't know how, i'll be glad to show them. Just make sure you have someone with skinny arms do it , or else you'll get cut up like me.

I'm so glad FL only has one. VW makes a mount that uses the tow connection...does look somewhat better and the mount can be painted to match...I will try to find the link if anyone's interested.
