Default Grrr. Hood latch disconnected. UPDATED.

Ok guys. Looks like I need some ideas. On my way out the door to go to the lake, figured I'd take a second and put on the AEM oil cap I just got.

Great idea except that when I pulled my hood release, it apparently came disconnected and now won't open. Didn't even release when I pulled it.

I'll be quite honest here and say that I haven't searched yet. This literally just happened and I'm in the car with the gf (in her xD) headed to the lake. I'm hoping a few of you can offer some ideas here for when I get home in a couple hours. Worst case I make a run to the dealer tomorrow morning.

Figures though. Car show on Sunday.

So... Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

So I did find one other thread about this from a while back. But it wasn't helpful. He had just taken it to the dealer and they had to order a cable and put it on a lift to open from the bottom. Doesn't seem like anything else was tried. This has to have happened to more people though. Someone has to have some suggestions.

Well so far I'm hoping I can cut the zip ties on my fig grille and pull that out to get at it. Will have to see when I get home.

So I cut the zip ties on my grille and was able to pop the hood (thank god). Thing is, I'm pretty sure I need a new cable.

Whoever said having a zip tied grille was bad was totally wrong... Guess I still ahve to stop by the dealer tomorrow though. Now I'm going to be running ghetto with no upper grille.

I was looking at the "replace the cable" manual, and I'm really glad it's not me, Allan. Much more trouble than I expected it to be. (in my sig)

Actually now that you mention it, I just checked it out. I can do that.

Really just involves removing the latch and the fender lining. I think I can handle it. Especially if it saves me $70 or more for labor. The part is only like $30.

So I stopped by to order the cable this morning. I think it was cheaper than I thought. Their computer said something like $21 or $24 or something. So that would be nice.

Will definitely post up some more detail when I get it and start the swap.

can ou tell if it us busted or came off the lever in the dash.......mine came off somehow under the dash when I had to relocete the latch for the Kami hood withthe wrong latch pin or did it seem to break???

you can get most everything very easy, the parts under the dash are the hardest of it all,and gettign teh anchor clip out he kick panel sucks, but I am fat and half blind so I hardly could see under there......

good luck......and yes being able to pop out grilles is nice..

I've never replaced a line on a Scion before, but I've done it on a Camry before. It shouldn't be that hard really. The hardest part or rather the most annoying part of it is the fact that you have to take off all the parts to get to it and then you have to fish it through the holes it needs to go through. It's tedious but very doable for anyone.

So far it seems like it snapped somewhere in the line. The wire us still attached at the handle in the car as I can reach behind the lever and pull on the line. Will just have to see what happens.

Picked up the cable today... of course... it's raining. And it's supposed to rain for the next 3 days.

All fixed! Sort of...

Turns out it was rusted/snapped about 7" or 8" from the actual latch under the hood. That end pulled right out when I got it apart.

Running the line wasn't too bad. There are only like 4 clips you have to get it out of. I don't have it totally proper into the firewall though. I mean, it's in there where it is supposed to be, but the grommet that is already on the line is not seated like it should be.

There was also a thing on those instructions (linked above) that says to adjust the cable... but I have no idea how. It links to some other document that either I don't know which one it is, or isn't available...

Scratch that, think I found it. Now just have to figure out how the hell it's supposed to adjust because it seems like I tried what it is suggesting and there wasn't any adjustment to it.
