Had to zip tie it in the good ole Wal-Mart parking lot.

This has been covered again and again and then some.

Toyota offered a warranty enhancement, extending the warranty on the hatch garnish from 7 years from the date of purchase, or one year from their announcement (whichever came first), which was on March 30, 2013.

It is out of the warranty period. Either buy a new one on your own dime, or keep it fastened with your ziptie method. Either way, the hatch should not be opened by placing any force on the garnish.

No. The extended warranty has expired.
