HID??
i was looking into purchasing an hid plug and play, I read that you will not be able to use your highbeams with the kits... is this true? What kits are recommended for price and quality... unfortunately not looking to spend to much trying to stay under $120...
if you flash your hi-beams when your lows/hi-s ar off (during the day), and your hi-beams turn on as well as the low-beams then I'm certainly positive that you won't be able to use the hi-beam function. This is because ballasts take a few seconds to warm up and fully work. If you flash your hi-beams a few times and for a short period of time, your ballasts will turn on too but that's the problem. You're not letting them get fully warmed up to work thus you will reduce their lifespan. It will also affect the bulb as they will age sooner.
That's why if you have any flickering or see any flickering on any car equipped with HID's, chances are their ballasts are about to die.

you can still use your highbeams with an HID kit on the tc. they are separate bulbs.
you might be thinking about cars that use dual filament bulbs for the high and low beam like the xa and xb. if you get a good kit that has two filaments like the stock bulbs, then you will have a high and low beam.

when you guys flash your hi-beams, do the low beams turn on as well?
If so, then that's what he's talking about.
That little action for a few seconds is what causes the ballast's lifespan to shorten down.

yeah my low beams go on as well unfortunately.. but since i usually high beam anyway when my lights are on, i guess it wont be as bad as if i flashed them when my lights were off...
but i second 6k cause its a hint of blue, maintains good output, and doesnt look cheesy

If I flash my highbeams, (when I pull the stick towards me and without the switch twisted to lowbeams), do the high beams AND the low beams turn on?
I thought it was just the high beams, but I might be wrong.
Thanks.
stupid question but why do you need to flash your high beams...........6000k HIDs are plenty bright to see........and I thought our low/highs were in differant lights.......I feel confused.........and if you can go with Mobile HID...you get a harness, mounts, and a great warrenty........and he answered my stupid questions very quick.............and I got a shirt too............

Sometimes, when you want to pass someone or signal someone that they have the right of way, you will flash your hi-beams.
With an HID setup, You can't do that because your ballasts take 20-30 seconds to fully engage into their normal operational form. If you keep giving them power gain and loss constantly, the ballast's lifespan will decrease dramatically thus your HIDs will last you less than what you can expect of them to last.
wanted to second the question of the life expectancy. i'm sure it ranges from brand to brand but anyone know off the top of your head which ones are proven to last longer? i've seen some for 2500 + hrs and others for 3000+ hrs....which i think amounts to around 2 years..
cause if the 3000+ kits are gonna last that much longer, i might go with those vs 2500. (since they're practically the same price with people advocating either one of 'em)
input welcome

with kits, you will get different answers. Some will last as some will fail on the first month.
That's why i stick to OEm components when i do my retrofits. That way i know what i buy will last a long time.
Take an example of older acuras and lexus with reflective HIDs?
They're from the late 90's and early 2000 yet it's 2007 and still functioning.
You get what you pay for.
