HID 6000k or 8000k?
Before you all tear into me for not searching, but I just want to let you know I have been searching, and done all the research I can on the internet between these two, this is a question regarding if I should trust an HID dealer
.
That being said, hopefully you guys can help me on an HID noob question. I have an 07 tC. I'm buying the 09 headlight housings (I guess they're projectors) for my car. I'm also getting an HID kit from a local HID dealer. After everything i've read everyone says 6000k is the perfect HID kit in general. The dealer is telling me for some reason that 6000k almost looks stock, and sometimes even a deep PINK color. To me that makes no sense and I have no idea where he gets that, but I for some reason trust him. He really is pushing me to get 8000k, but i've heard its a cop magnet, and they look way too blue.
Basically what I want is a very white (with a touch of blue) look. I also want it to not have me pulled over getting a ticket. I also don't want people constantly flashing me with their beams assuming my high beams are always on.
Also i'm really concerned with some of the things i've read all through this forum, that really show how much of a noob I am
.
What are "squirrel spotters" and do I need to concern myself with it? I've heard people talking about bending tabs down and baking their headlights because it seems to be such a big deal.
Anything else I need to do or know to get the white (with a hint of blue) look, stay completely legal, and not have someone get out of their car when they're stopped in front of me at a red light and knock me out for my headlights blinding them in their rear-view mirror?
Hes charging me 200 out the door, for the kit, install, and installing the new headlight housings as well. He said if I get 8000k and I find them too blue, he'll just switch the bulbs to 6000k which I didnt think it was that easy. I don't think he uses certain brands, he just picks any kit off the shelf in his back room that says H11 8000k or H11 6000k haha. The law here says its illegal to have any HID kit in a housing that isn't made for HID, but i've also heard with some HID kits, cops shouldn't even be able to tell them apart from the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs.
Thank you all.

go 6000K, if you go to 8K you will lose a substantial amount of light and it will be almost too blue
I have 6K in my GSXR and they are INCREDIBLE...i got em at DDMtuning.com... its mainly for bmw stuff but they have sick deals on HID kits and they are awesome...done get the apexicone, get the DDM ones, i believe they are $50.00 right now for a 6K set, and completely plug and play...not a spokesperson just satisfied in what i bought
hope that helps

I say 6000. I don't know where he gets pink from unless the kits he sells are faulty. And if H.I.D.s are illegal where you are at maybe you should reconsider or something. But you should be able to angle the lights down towards the road a little to help from upsetting on coming traffic, but with either one you will get that person who flashes their brights at you.
Your the customer and its your decision. He doesn't really have any say in what you prefer. I was having the same dilemma choosing the right bulb color also. I agree with everyone else 6K is the best option for light output and police harassment.
i had 6k and switched to 8k
no lie you can't even tell the difference
SLIGHTTTT hint of blue
more noticable outside the car of course
really up to your taste light output
4300k or 6k
rice/show 10k up
8k's right in the middle imo

If only I had 2 tCs next to each other both with the 09 headlight housings, one with 6ks at night and one with 8ks at night right next to each other to look at, with no way anything could change as far as appearance if I were to get another brand, or wattage of ballast for instance...
Everyone is seriously saying 6, my gut feeling has always been 6, but if I end up getting 6 and it has that stock boring almost kinda yellowish tint, i'll be a sad puppydog. Thank you all for your responses so far!
6000K is sexy in my opinion. Not too white, not too blue. But here in Cali, anything brighter than stock bulbs is illegal.
Good 'ol California. Sucking all the fun out, one mod at a time....

i have 8k and i can tell you that i love it...i really like the hint of blue because it really set you apart from other cars on the road
however, like many have said before, it does have its cons. i drove to minneapolis over thanxgiving in the rain and it was really hard to see. i'm not sure if 6k will be much better. But on clear night, 8k rocks!

had 6k before and liked it and then got 4300k and liked it even more because it's really bright, my gf has 8k on her tc and i hate it because it's not that bright at all and is too blue which is why the light output is bad.
It sounds like most of you are recommending 6000k. So I also just realized something, being the HID noob that I am
So an HID kit has two bulbs in it. Shouldn't I need 4 bulbs? 2 for the high beams, and 2 for the low beams, or does the HID kit just replace the low beams and people with HID shouldn't ever need to use their brights. lol I just feel like it would look weird, with my brights on, being two totally different colors (stock yellowish, and pure 6000k white).
Thanks =)

you dont need two sets, there is no point to get them for the highs because with the regular highs and hid lows it will be plenty bright enough. Also how cares if it looks weird with the highs on, it is not like you have them on all the time anyways. Another reason is its not good for the HIDs to be flashed on and off.

Hey dont buy HID's for your high beams.
The flashing on and off does not really matter in that case but the thing is.
HID's are Xenon gas filled lights that need to warm up before having a bright touch. So using them for your highbeams would not be a good idea.
Cuz it need to stay lit to be brighter so if you turn it off it well get down again. and youn need to do the same thing.
hope it helped.
