Default Hitch-rack options for TC

Hi, I've got a black cherry tc coupe that I just love. Problem is my old hitch-rack cheapo I used to haul my mountain bikes around on my Taurus is now irrelevant to the tc.

I'm not keen on shelling out $500 on some Yakima roof-rack so I wanted to know if anybody had had any luck with hitch-racks for the tc.

Do any exist or are we tc owners stuck with the Yakima roof option and the ugly appearance and awful wind noise that comes with it?

Thanks.

Andy

You're not supposed to put a hitch on the tC - check your owners manual.

I fold the rear seats down, and my bike fits with the rear and front wheels off.

Um... no... the original poster is asking about a rack that would connect to a tow hitch on the rear. The Yakima rack is an option he's aware of but he'd like to know if there are any hitch options. Which there are not.

what does the book say about adding a hitch? if you were to add the hitch for a bike rack thats a lot better then other types of bike racks

come on people...the tC is NOT for hauling anything you cant fit inside it. the roof is glass....why ruid it with a roof rack. and if you can get a trailer hitch on the tC, you will first be laughed at, then congradulated for ruining your car. go buy a 500 beater civic and haul your bike and or kayak...THE TC IS NOT MENT TO HAUL ANYTHING!!!

Just because I have a kayak doesn't mean I'm destined to drive a $500 beater civic around. I don't see anything wrong with a roof rack, if it helps me get my stuff from point A to point B.. that's what I bought the car for, not to be inconvenienced.

My only question is why didn't you look into this sort of stuff before you got the car....

You know... "can i put a hitch on it for my bike?" ... "is there a roof rack that won't damage anything and is easy to use?" ... "can i tow anything with it?"

Those are the types of things I think you'd ask before you get it. That way you know ahead of time... instead of now, you have this car already but you're not totally sure yet if the roof rack is worth it, and you know now you shouldn't really put a hitch on it... so what happens if you don't like the roof rack?

I just wanted to know if the rack was a pain to install.. and if it was simple enough to remove/put on as needed. Regardless I'm getting the rack to move my stuff around, that's not the issue.

I've actually heard of a guy that got a hitch installed on his tC. The thing to watch out for is you have to make sure that you don't exceed the weight ratings for the car and the rear suspension.... even a small trailer would exceed them, but a bike rack probably wouldn't. However to make it easy and so as to keep from inviting lawsuits, scion and many other automakers simply opt to put some sort of no hitches allowed kind of language in the owners manual.

So be careful if you decide to go that direction, it may void your warranty at least as far as the rear shocks and maybe transmission and other driveline components as well because it's nearly impossible to prove that you didn't use it improperly.
