Default I'm I Asking Too Much? Have Paint Work? Chime In!

So I got my kaminari kit back yesterday about 4pm. I dropped off at home (4:30pm) and took my car to the car wash to clean it up. I come back home (6:00pm) and we start to install the kit. We get it on and as we finish the rear we notice dimples all in the sides of the rear. I'm like no big deal I take it back and have them fix it (now it like 8:30 and dark). We rinse it of and wipe with hands to remove smudges and some soap or polish that was still on the kit from the shop(?? not sure why).

Everything but the dimples looked great in the dark... cut to this afternoon and the more I worked on the car and looked at the kit the more problems I noticed. There's little scratched in it like when the dealer washes your car. It's starting to haze in spots, noticed some more dimples in the front bumper, deep scratches, drops of black paint like if I kid dripped water paint on paper, and spots where it looks like the paint ran and then dried. Is any of this normal?

They said they sprayed something on it, then "bull dog", then the paint. I was told it looked like someone to 180grit sandpaper to it and they didn't noticed till after it was painted and then had to do it over (this is before I picked it, I haven't contacted them about this stuff yet).

Here's some pics.... Oh yeah so the question is any of this normal and if so what and if not should I expect the finally product to look OEM? I know the color will always be off but surprisingly it's not (that I can tell).

I don't think painting aftermarket parts can come out 'perfect' but they shouldn't have the hazing problems like you have.
My lip came out super smooth just like my OEM paint so who knows.

Honestly, the paintjob's really, really lousy. I'd take it all back to the shop that did it...and tell them it's unsatisfactory and substandard. I mean, come on. You paid good money in good faith that they would do a clean job. These pics prove otherwise.

Who did the paintjob anyways? a Professional shop? Or, a friend doing this kind of sidejob in his garage?

Dimples are low spots in the clear that weren't touched when wet sanded but shouldve been touched. The hazing is a lousy buff and polish job after the wet sanding.

To DIY buff and polish go to this thread I made a few days ago. I wouldn't try wet sanding the dimpled areas your self because who knows how much clear is left. have them do it so if they burn through the paint they need to re shoot it.

Florida Street Dreams, a place that does everything from custom cars to insurance work. I've seen some of the custom stuff and it looked great.

I paid $500 for kit (cash) $200 for all my interior parts being painted and the 3rd brake light. Turns out my buddy knows the owner and he said to have the owner paint it. It kind of sucks cuz the guy that painted it is a really nice guy and he was gonna start coming out to local meets and hang out. Now it will be a little awkward.lol

I dont think it will be akward. MOST companies want to know that they have good work on cars. And I know when I had mine painted, when I brought it back and talked to the owner, he was embarassed that his guys let a car go looking like it did.
He fixed it and there was no hard feelings. With painting cars most of the business comes from referals. I kow I would never let a shop paint my car, that a friend didnt reccomend. So that shop knows that if you arent happy, none of your friends will come to them.

So go and talk to them, and get it fixed. DO NOT TRY AND DIY THIS LIKE SUGGESTED. You payed for a product and it should be correct.
You dont buy a PS3 and then DIY solder the processors on the board, do you? Then why would you have a company paint something, and then have to sand it and buff it and finish it?

I'm not touching anything.lol They will have to do everything.lol

Would the hazing just start popping up like that after so many hours? When I picked the kit up about 4pm I didn't notice anything but by time 10am the next morning I noticed in the front and then again on the rear at about 3pm. Same thing with the little scratches, seemed like as the day went on we noticed more and more.

The funniest part is the spots we were working by that we could of possibly did the scratching was the side skirts where the door opens and thats fine. I was soldering wires, running wires, pulled the seats out, pulled the door panels off, and everything was fine there.

Also there looks to be like sand or little tiny rock that may have fell into the paint and got painted over. I just hope they fix it with no problems and get it done by Oct. 3rd.

Yay for my super painter!

Unlike iKona!

But I think you should expect darn near OEM results, when my A-C pillar and spoiler were repainted, they looked great (and still do). I wouldn't expect anything less.

It'll be awkward indeed. However business is business, man. If he is professional as he seems to be, then he'll understand your predicament. Try to explain to him your concern and iterate that if he were in your shoes, he'd probably do the same. If he likes his cars as much as you do on yours, then I'm sure he'll understand. Show your kit to your common buddy as well and make sure to get him involved; afterall, he did recommend him to you. GL!

No I'd never touch it. I didn't even want to put the water on it but they said it was ok. I even asked if rain would hurt it and if I should keep it out of rain for a week or so.lol

As for the PS3 thing, yeah I'd probably do that.lol I like to "mod" my computer type of electronics but I do so knowinf the risk and would never bring it back if I F-ed it up.lol

I brought it down their today and the owner was so cool about it all and said they would fix it and that all there work is guaranteed. I'm not used to being treated like that after ZPI and a local shop that did my alarm on my '05.

He wants me to bring it back Thursday and they're gonna keep the car till Friday. He said they should be able to fix the rear and sides without repainting but he said they might have to redo the front. He wants me to wait till Thursday cuz it was painted last Thursday and he said it would be better to wait for the paint to cure more before trying to rebuff and whatever.
