Default ive got rust help me!

ok so i washed my car and i noticed that a rock chiped some paint . i dint think much of it at the time cuase i already got a few. well today i noticed that the area had turned a rusty brown. its so small but i dont want it to spread . how do i fix it? should i chip some of the surrounding paint to see if its spread yet? can i just cover it with something? heres a pic i just took with my finger to see how small it is but i want to fix it before it gets worse. thanks guys :

i have teh same problem! mine is about the size of a very small pebble. What im told is that i should take a very fine grit sand paper and get all of the rust off of the section, then apply some touch up paint to it. i do know for a fact that it can spread underneath the painted portions of the paint so it needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. Im just going to save up some cash and take it to a body shop and see what they say

I'm almost positive Toyota has a rust/corrosion warranty. They may not warranty their thin paint, but a new car shouldn't rust.

Check with Scion at the number in my sig, might save you some cash and headaches.

It will not be covered since the paint was taken off by a rock.

If it was to rust for no reason or for the paint to fall off they would warranty it but they will state the obvious and that is the fact a rock hit it.

Every car on the road has rock chips which are ugly and possibly cause rust.

I am just waiting to get mine. Stay away from trucks and salt trucks.

also . a clear fingernail polish droped into the rock chip will stop the rust process as well. Just use a tiny tiny ammount, just enough to flush up with the original paint. Not a great solution, but it does stop the rust from getting any worse.

go to the parts section of toyota, they will give u a bottle... its between $10-$15. my reccomendation is to apply it with a toothpick instead of the brush they give u because that can get messy really fast, lol

If you're seeing rust then the chip is through the primer and down to bare metal...fix it before the rust starts to spread under the paint as it will cause the paint to 'pop' once it spreads under the surrounding paint. Finding a 'How-To' on chip and scratch repair is pretty easy...and here's one that walks you through the entire process:

http://guidetodetailing.com/articles.php?articleId=27

I've used the same method on my girlfriend's FM tC and my 911, GS300, H2 and Lightning for rock chips and it works perfectly and you cannot see the chips at all (granted my cars are all 'universal' black which is easy...the Toyota touch-up paint in FM is a little off from the car's color but I know where the repairs are so I can find them if I look...but anyone else would never know).

Know it, learn it, live it...

i have a 94 accord.. i got a rock chip the first year that i had it.. now over a decade later... the rust that is in the chipped area is still confined to that area... use some wd-40 on the spot and you should be fine.
