You gonna do it? Awesome!!! Make sure to keep us posted on how it goes! If it ends looking really nice, but still fairly low key, I'd love the DIY for it. =) Ohhhh you know what would be cool for your car? If u can somehow have another set that is only on when your glow lights are one, in a matching color. The red for braking (which is badass) and the blue for shows (also badass)

Well I did a bit more searching, and I found this....

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=63336

which is very similar. I figure from this DIY guide, you can do a mock-up of the Knight Rider thing. Good luck man.
Yea, but all that guy did was added LED across the whole lens so the whole thing lights up. You want the light to go from side to side. I think it would be kool to have them light up normal, then when you hit the brake the lights go to a side to side effect.

why don't you guys try to retrofit one of these suckers into the 3rd brake light?

http://www.iceled.co.uk/scanner.htm

i would do it myself if i had the time, money and patience... especially programming and everything to work normally with the brakes. (which is possible with alot of electrical work)

Tim.... you should do it... but hey... it's MY idea

You don't need to buy all these aftermarket light kids to do this. It's actually a very simple circuit, I started building mine awhile ago but never got time to finish it. Anyway, this site gives you a full tutorial, including schematics, for doing several different variations of this.

That is awesome. I will be waiting. I think this is a really cool mod that makes our ugly third brake light look a lot better. Keep us informed on the status.

I wonder if that guy is on SL...if you read the comments, he would not tell the people asking how to do it. I take it that the chip driver would not be too much with regards to installation and power consumption? Well, if you ever decide to do it, I'm sure many people would appreciate a DIY guide =)
It's a she. Who know, she might be a member and come across this thread soon.

everyone's overshooting the mark for finding a sweeping led product

i know i got to the thread kinda late, but go to your local autozone and in the section that has led products (led screws, cigarette lighters, and random led accenting things) they have what is called the "sweeper Led" light, that comes with two sweeping led light bars, which can be opened and modded to add the led's to the sides of the stock tC 3rd brake light housing

That bit-tech article is nice... it would make the job easy to do if you just hooked the LED's up with wires... I could do it pretty easily except I don't have access to the equipment to make the PCB for that anymore

If anyone's capable of making the PCB I bet it would be a decent seller...
