Default Meguirs Plast-X and 3M Rubbing Compound question?

After washing and waxing my car, is this safe to apply these two items to my entire car? I have swirls from stupidly not using microfiber towels the first time I handwashed my car, and after tinting my taillights and using these two items to take away the swirls and scratches from my tail lights, Im wondering if I can use these two all over my car to remove the scratches. Is this possible and will it dull my paint or anything negative?

rubbing compound will damage your paint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i used rubbing comound a LOT.. when i changed my sideskirts i tested the rubbing and polishing compound:

if u wet sand your paint.. rubbing compound will help but u will see the swirls!!! if u try it on a good paint where is no damage no swirls nothing then u will see swirls due the rubbing compound.

after wet sand: using the rubbing compound then polish it with a machine + polishing compound will get rid off the swirls. but u need only polishing compound.

AND DONT USE rubbing compound it will make things worst. try polishing compound and buy a polishing machine... it will take 10 times longer to get rid of the swirls by hand...

here.. this is what i did not even a week ago.. my bro was backing up hitting a something.. as u can see the paint came off so i used rubbing compound then which didnt doo to much with these big scratches but the polishing compound with machine did a fantastic job!

click on the pics.. and u can see the metal so its will ned a repaint anyway but it looks much better now...

i will post up some different pics soon

If you have minor swirl marks just use 3M polish from auto zone (its about 13 bucks for a small bottle) Just wipe it on and work it into the paint, let it haze, then wipe it off.

If that doesnt remove swirl marks then use a light rubbing compound. I personally prefer 3M rubbing compound (black bottle at auto zone about 13 dollars) and itl look like a tan lotion. Work that into the paint with a polish pad. You really have to work it in with moderate pressure, dont expect to wipe on wipe off and bam its nice. You squirt about a penny size drop and rub it in about 1.2 sq ft around and keep rubbing it in until it hazes up and gets difficult to rub in. Then take a clean cloth and wipe it off. Youll see more swirl marks but they will be very very un noticable and much lighter than what was there. It should remove the bigger marks or any sort of blemishes. If it didnt do it then keep doing it until your satisfied. THen go over it with polish (3M or step 2 paint cleaner polish from meguiers is my personal pic) and rubb that in the paint a little then wipe it off. I'm polishing my whole car like that after wet sanding the fresh paint job. Itl take me a long time but after spending about 40 min doing the fender you can tell its much better then a machine buffer job.

P.S there are different types of rubbing compound. If your paint is already polished but u want to clean it up. Get a very very super fine compound that feels like polish if you put it between your fingers. If you are working on real tough to get otu scratches or blemishes then you want to go with a more coarse rubbing compound which would be a tan peach fuzzy feal liquid that actually has like 10 thousand grit sand in the compound. That stuff is amazing but after using that itl take a little bit of time to polish it unless your using a machine buffer.

Here is a perfect combination of products that took me over 2 years to put together after mixing and matching different products.

3M rubbing compound (ultra fine)
Turtle wax polishing compound (you can also do with out this)
Meguiers paint cleaner polish
Black magic wax (any wax)

I use polishing pads to apply everything and micro fiber cloths to clean it off and wipe it all.

That stuff will cost you around 50 bucks but works like a ch arm!

wash -> turtle wax's scratch and swirl remover -> wax

clay bar will take out a lot of the surface swirls too. use that instead for the scratch and swirl remover.

I agree, I bought the same kit in the video. My car still has swirls and now looks cloudy and I spent hours on it. I have an 08 too so it couldnt be that hard!

Clay will do nothing to remove swirl marks.
