I picked up an extra set of stock tails to try to mod.
I opened up the lights


Taped up the reflective parts I needed to keep


Painted unneccesary chrome areas with satin black paint


Resealed and painted a black outline on the edges to cover the visible line where the lights were cut open and then clear coated them


So now the finished product with a comparison so you easily notice the subtle change.

How did you open up the lights?

 

Unfortunatley the lights are plastic welded together, so the only way to open them is by cutting with a dremel where the plastic back meets the red lens.

That was my original intention but things didn't work out with Feint so I made these and just skipped the led part.

What did you use to seal/glue them back together?

 

Permatex black silicone found at any auto parts store. It's thick, dries pretty fast, and has a rubbery texture to it. Just use alot of it to make sure you have all the cracks sealed.

that looks really nice, i think i might have to try that with the extra set of lights i have sitting in my closet. any special type of paint?

 

No special paint. I used Duplicolor satin black. I think that's a good choice.... a flat paint might make it look dull and a gloss might end up too bright.
