Default My foglight dilema

So as of right now I have the APT fogs with a 3000k HID kit running the lights. I mainly use them for "daytime running lights" because they are WAYYY to bright to use at nightime. The light output on those is crazy and I've even seen racoon eyes in the trees! I knew this going into the project and have thought of a few ideas to tryout. I love the look of the APT fogs in there and I am reluctant to change them out but I want to use projector lights for my fogs so I can use them at night also without blinding everything in my path. No matter what I do the HID kit for the fogs will stay as the light source, I might even change bulbs to 6000k to match the headlights. These are some of my ideas so far......

-I was wondering if anyone had taken the APT fogs and retrofitted them with a projector housing so you get the projector output but I could still keep the APT housing/look in there. I was thinking of cutting out the back and fitting the projector housing in there, but with my CAI that won't work. That da*m CAI seems to get in my way whenever I do something with the foglights! That might go!

-My other idea was to take those fake foglight vent covers in the lower bumber corners that come from the factory. What the hell are those pieces even called??? I can't use mine because I had made custom LED fogs last year and obviously cannot re-use them. So my other idea was to get 2 of those (if someone has used ones to sell send me a pm) and cut holes in them so I could get a projector housing to stay in there. AND look good also.

-Or my other idea was to get projector housings and mount them behind the lower grill with the HID bulbs and switch the APT bulbs back to the regular white ones that they came with. At this point I would have 2 different pairs of foglights, one HID yellow and 1 pair of white. No I would probably not have them on at the same time, that might look a little goofy.

I've searched the threads and most of the foglight pics I wanted to see are no longer available because the thread is from 2007. I came across some people talking about the Lexus IS300 foglights but again I was unable to see pics because the thread was old. Any ideas, pics, thoughts or input would help. Sorry for the long a@@ post.

Thanks guys!

Just get rid of the HIDs, it's too much lighting for those fogs. HIDs do not belong in VRD fogs, they scatter light way too much.

Here is a comparison I did a while back, to prove that VRD/APT fogs should never have HIDs in them.

The cutoff for the fog lights is WAY above the cutoff for my low beams. I doubt you'll find a projector small enough to fit in there, but if you can, go ahead and do it.

If you want yellow bulbs, just get those hyper yellow ones. It produces the same color, and won't blind every single person within a 40 mile radius.

Yeah, just get some colored bulbs, forget HIDs in the fogs, I have a friend with HID fogs and whenever we drive together I make him turn them off so he doesn't blind me, on the other hand I have 2500k nokya bulbs in mine and they're just fine.

Good pics CarbonXe......I should take a pic like that with the HID bulbs in the fogs. It's wayyy bright. lol

Optional....I really want to keep the HID's just because I like the color output, (and I paid for them) but I have considered the Nokya 2500k bulbs. On some people's pics they look pretty good. That's not a bad route to go, good idea!

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

These are the Nokya yellow bulbs that Optional is talking about. I used them in my VRDs for a short while (one burned out quickly because I bought the cheap knock offs lol) and my friend uses them in his fogs.

DJ08tC....that's the look right there! That's not far from the HID's I've got in there right now. I just ordered my Nokya 2500k from Amazon and they should come in next week. Looks like I've got an extra HID setup now. lol

The ballasts are always good to hang onto, since they can be used with another set of bulbs. I used the same ballasts going from my 9006 bulbs (05 tC) to my H11 bulbs (08 tC).
