so I am leaving for 3 weeks out of the country and my bro is going to take my car while I am gone.

I am wanting to cover up the front of the car while I am away to decrease the chances of rock chips or debris hitting my car until I get X-Pel.

What kind of tape to use? Painters tape?

How much do I need to cover the front bumper, part of the hood, and mirrors?

How many layers do you put on?

Any help is appreciated.

 

i do this all the time on long trips to save my hood,etc.

3M blue painters tape, works great
leaves no marks, and yes, use 2layers

 

Will the tape be ok for 3 weeks on the car without messing up the paint? This is my biggest concern. TIA.

 

i wouldnt consider parking in the cold/nights outside or in the sun continuously.. it might begin to peel (the tape, not paint) i dont know for sure, never left it on that long..

 

I'll just have my bro wash the car and reapply after. How many rolls did you guys use?

 

i wouldn't leave it on for 3weeks
buy 2rolls, should be enough
tape up before you leave
and then before you come back

 

Yeah, i've seen him do his car up before on our way to Atlantic City.. seems to work well for Dave.. I'd imagine the same for you.

 

Do you just do the first few inches of the hood? any pics? i might have to do this..
