Default OFFICIAL THREAD - HID retrofit projects

I don't thknk I've seen a thread that is dedicated to HID retrofit projects. So, I'll start one since I received numerous PMs about retrofits here and there.

If you have retrofits, take pride in it because you are the few of many. Post your installed retro here (day time pics, night pics, and cutoffs pics)

If you want to do your own retrofit, post your questions and projects here so people can help you.

Let me start.

By far, my custom projectors have sharper cutoffs and brighter than TSX. But their foreground is not as impressive as TSX.

the shrouds remind me of transformers for some reason.

I will have my stockers baked and taken apart and I already ordered replacement blinkers, parking lights, and some angel eyes. But I don't want to stop there. Can I buy an HID kit for the low beams and do something to the reflective housing so I can use them w/o being obnoxious?

The primary problem with HID kit is glare. Many members discussed the use of Kits here and there. I recommend staying stock and do other mods (halos, etc)

i have just hids in the stock housing & it gives off a lot of unwanted light (obviously) only thing that helps out is that i'm dropped so its not that obnoxious to other drivers.

curious to know, how long did it take you to do the retro? aprrox how much are projectors?

looks great!

projectors price can vary depending on model type. I believe the s2000's are the most expensive? However any other projector can be the same when including swapping out the lense. Different types of lense can be a night/day difference in performance which can jump the price on them. You can find projectors on ebay (sometimes isnt the best idea) or the best place is HIDPlanet.com/forums in the classifieds.

I personally love ebay. Got most of my stuffs on there. If you want to do lens swap the 2 rules of thumb are 1) make sure it fits. 2) the clearer the lens the brighter and sharper cutoffs it will produce. If you all just want HID, then just get any OEM projectors and work from there. No biggie if you're not into sharp and colorful cutoffs.

well, i just took out some TSX clear lense ptojectors out of damn near new headlights, now i'm just rounding up other parts.
noodle, i'll let you know about those shrouds, sorry i didn't reply to your pm.
as for doing hid's in your high beams, i thing your can use a d2r bulb which is normally used for converting halogen projectors to hid but i think they do make good kits out there that are made for reflector type headlights, the only difference is the bulb, the ones for reflectors just has a dark coating on one side so the light doesn't glare. someone please correct me if i'm wrong. also, i'm glad that there are people out there that care enough about other drivers choose to not do things that would ____ them off.

and last, is there anything else i can do while i have these apart? i don't like halos so i won't be doing that and i have piaa bulbs in the high beams and they are plenty bright so no need to do a conversing there but i didn't want to smoke the reflector. how can i do this but still have the reflector reflect amber?

ps, noodle, did you use the Nissan stuff to seal your headlights back up?
