Default Painting emblems

I've been trying to find info on painting the emblems and the tech section DIY has it, but is missing the 1st post..anyways..I know how to take it off, but the only problem is how should I paint it? what types of paint (primer, color, gloss?) and what type of paint is it because i've been looking around autozone and theres just so many, I'm not sure which one to get..

Staret with duplicolor adhesion promoter..then paint the color you want followed by a couple costs of clear. Clean everything with soapy water before you start and do very light coats and everything will turn out great. Mine still lokk great after about 6 months or so. Heres mine:

duplicolor primer (2 very light coats), duplicolor graphite grey metallic ( 4 coats), duplicolor clear coat (3 coats)

used black silicone adhesive sealant to put it back.

the light kinda distorted the color a bit, it's actually darker, the color is very similar to the grille.

I just used a duplicolor gloss black that they had at the auto parts store and stuck them back on using permatex clear silicone adhesive/sealant.

i think its something like auto spray paint or something close to that...it's in a small spray can not the normal size one. i got mine at kragen's but found out later that pep boys has them cheaper but not by much.

you might not be able to find the clear coat...i went to about 5 stores (mixture of kragen, pep boys, autozone) and finally got one.

the duplicolor site isn't that informative. just go to the store and look for small spray can of paint. i'll be able to get the name of what i use tomorrow when i go into work.

Did you use the adhesion promoter? That made all the difference for me.

i went for a bit of a different approach. and halfway failed my first attempt. i have to redo the silver. but with the clear coat and standing back a bit it looks pretty badass. not to mention the cam phone doesnt do it justice...

i just sanded it a tiny bit and used some auto paint from walmart. then stuck it back on with 3M tape.

Default Painting emblems

When painting plastic the first thing you want to do is remove all the 'shiney.' The number one rule is "paint doesn't stick to shiney." Get some gray scotch brite at you local paint store and a bucket of soapy water. Wet sand the emblem with the scotchbrite pad until all the shiney is gone. Once this is done, you'll want to clean every square inch of the emblem using toothpicks...NOT QTIPS to gently clean the entire area. Next you will want to use an all purpose wax and grease remover to take off any soapy residue. GIVE THIS PLEANTY OF TIME TO FLASH OFF! After you are confident that it has flashed, spray one medium to wet coat of sealer. (No primer is nessicary) After this has completely flashed (read p bullitan for info on temps and flash time) then you can spray a light coat of base. After that flashes, spray a medium to wet coat of base. You should really only need two coats for an emblem but if you still dont have coverage, spray another medium to wet coat. If you are using single stage paint no clear is nessicary. If you are using bc/cc you will need to let the paint flash again and begin your first coat of clear. Clear must be sprayed wet or it will look dry and crumbly. A second coat of clear is applied after the first coat flashed. Let the emblem sit in a clean place where it will be protected from falling lint and dust particles. PPG is probably one of the best paints to use. Dupont is also OK and can be mixed at your local O'Reillys store. (They can get your paint code and everything for you)

Use 3M double stick tape to reapply to the car! (You can use a sharp razor blade to cut the tape to fit...also make sure the entire area on the badge and the car are cleaned with wax and grease remover)
