painting heatshield thats over the stock header
#22
Well unless I am mistaken, it appears the new VHT Engine Metallic paint doesnt even stock until 4/16. (Unless someone can find me a better reference). I see some other companies have a gold high-temp paint to 650F but not the gold I am looking for
Thanks for the input about mixing though I will keep that in mind when I attempt this mod in the near future!

Hey I have searched and am unable to find how to remove the O2 sensor so that I may remove the header heat shield for painting. I know many people have done it so I must be looking in the wrong place - but could someone give me a tip on how to do this? Thanks in advance!

just as an afterthought though....so that you dont break anything or strip the o2 sensor nut....use a rag to catch the excess ....but spray some WD-40 around the base of the 02 sensor and let it soak in for a few mins...then remove the sensor...it really helps a lot.

Yeah, I read that WD-40 is a necessity when removing the O2 sensor, thanks. I also read somewhere, YSTC I think, that it is easier to unplug the sensor and slide the heat shield down that way? That doesn't really make sense to me...
I may try to take off the heat shield tomorrow.. if I can get up the courage to attempt removal of the sensor!

Thanks! Are these actually the NAMES for these tools? And Can I get them at any auto parts store?
Yea you can find them at any parts store, or if you're at Sears, they'll have them in their specialty tool section.

jdscion06 .... hey bro....when I had my 06 tC before header mods...I ceramic painted the heat shield just like you're wanting to do... I just simply unbolted it and carefully slid it back out of the way...then removed the sensor. no real need to unplug it from the harness.

For the 08 tCs you can take the heat shield off without taking the O2 sensor off. They are different, the O2 sensor is lower on the 08s and doesn't go through the heat shield.
