Default Polished engine valve cover. DIY

I think this mod looks great and costs very little so everyone is invited.
If you want to polish your valve cover, it is fairly simple. All you need is:
sand paper: 320/600/1000/1500.

rotary tool: rotomatic or dremel using a brass brush.

Metal polish

Mask & glasses (please don't lose an eye or get poisoned because of Aluminum chips)

This is the way I did it:
1. Start sanding with 320 paper all around and use the dremel for the hard-to-reach parts

2. Then pass 600 paper all over to reduce deep scratches.

3. Repeat 2 but with 1000 paper and 1500 paper. It should start looking smooth after 1000.
you will be left with fine scratches anyways so make sure you sand one last time to get the scratches in the same direction with 1000 & 1500.

4. Finally apply the metal polish as directed in the product.

And...... here it is, your shiny engine valve cover.

Now share your pics whenever you are done.

tcpete, they just screw out. i kinda overtightened the nuts that hold the engine cover on and now whenever i unscrew them, the bolts come out of the valve cover instead of the nuts comming off the bolt like it should.

Somebody else is got to try it and post some comparo pics. Oh and by the way this is just as good for the headers, you know to recover the shiny stainless steel look. I might do it this weekend.

I'm planning on giving it a shot as soon as i have a chance (which might be a while). If I mess up, I could always just put the cover back on!

One suggestion- How about buffing it with a drill or dremmel to give it a tad more shine?

king, just so you know it would be very hard to mess up you have a few inches of alluminum sand on so it'll just take time.

Looks great but you need a polished spark plug cover now.

I know where you can get one cheap. Even powdercoated any color
