Default Question about separating headlight lens

Before I reassemble, do I have to get all of the original silicone off before I apply the new silicone?

I actually kept as much of the old adhesive on as possible, then baked them again and pushed them back together as much as possible. I then got some clear silicone and ran a bead between the housing and the clear lens

My headlights still haven't fogged up, and its been about 2 months after I baked them open

Well I did like you said and left as much of the original silicone on as I could, I put some clear silicone on top of the original, put the lights back together, baked them for seven minutes, tightened all the screws, and then put some more of the clear silicone on between the housing and lense. So hopefully that does the trick. What a pain in the butt though. Don't really want to have to go through that again!!!

Tell me about it, the first time I baked them back together, I didn't push them back together very hard or put the bead of silicone between the housing and the lens, and it had condensation the next morning. So I had to do it again, god what a pain!!

It sounds like you took your time, and did it right, you should be fine

Funny you mention that because I just finished cleaning her up! No fog or condensation. So it seems as though I actually did it right.

Ok where can I get these packets of sicla Gel because my passenger headlight now has a little bit of condensation? Figures and I thought I was in the clear. Here is the thing though I probaly won't be able to get this done for like a week because of my work schedule. Will this do any damage cause I have HID's? I really don't feel like doing this again, but that is ok cause I am going to order some rage halos and just do it all at the same time.

check with a shoe store, or you could goto a place like best buy and look at their laptop bags, they have a ton, and some maybe on the shelves under the bags that had fallen out.

Oh are those though stupid packets that you find when you buy something new? I didn't even realize what they were but now it all makes sense as far as absorbing moisture. Thanks!

I just go to the sporting goods store and unleash fury into all their shoe boxes and come up on like 30 at a time haha. Make sure you put silicone in the crevises where they meet before putting them back together and then back them closed then after put cilicone on the out side. I have done about 20 sets and have had no fogging issues

So do I just stick them in anywhere obviously where they won't be seen? And what about the HID's? If I don't get this for a little while will anything get damaged? It is only in one light and it was very minimal.

Yes, just anywhere within the housing and that should work.

The HIDs should be fine, depending on the HIDs.

MobileHIDs has ones that he put the ballast and bulb in water and it was lit fine. Not sure if all are fine with it though.

Ok well I have Pilot HID's which were quite expensive so I hope all will be ok cause I have heard that they will work submerged under water as well.
